First of a special series, this is another uncommon beer from Hopfenstark. True Belgian esters from Abbey yeast, a lot of malt and body without any alcohol taste and some grape flavor from New World hops.

In short: A no-style copper ale that is an entertaining mix of flavors
How: Tap at Siboire, Sherbrooke Quebec
The look: Almost clear copper-red body topped by a small white head leaving good lacings on the glass
In long: Nose is fruity, leathery(!?), hops resin, other stuff… Taste is even more all over the place. Tropical fruits, sour cherries wrapped in caramel, herbal and peppery spiciness sensation, some exotic fruits, resinous bitterness, alcohol heat. A tasty beer that goes in all directions. I wouldn’t call it complex because it goes in all directions, but it was an entertaining amalgam of things. This beer is kind of an oddball, something you need to try by yourself. And it’s always the same with me, when I’m sober everybody get on my nerves, but as soon as I have a few beers then everybody get on my nerves and I feel like eating Doritos.

A hazed reddish brown ale with a thin creamy mocha head. In aroma, smooth mix of candy sugar and floral hops, orange pulp, quite nice. In mouth, a nice treacle malt with nice herbal hops, menthol, nutty notes, very nice. On tap at Mondiale 2012 , June 9 2012.

Fruity nose and some unidentifiable notes. Soft, diacetyl body with mango, canteloupe and light pear juice. Strange beer, I’m not sure what to make of it.

[4484-20120608] Cask. Mild fruity mango hops aroma. Slightly hazy, bee brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Sweet fruity mango hops flavour has a nice bitter follow-through. Medium body. Interesting strong fruit characteristics. (7/4/7/3/15) 3.6

@Mondial de la Bière 2012, Montreal - cloudy dark amber beer; little foam left, earthy, caramel; lively and tasty palate; some late bitterness; aftertaste of nougat and honey, earthy and fairly hoppy; candi sugar and notes of alcohol - a different beer, hard to spot

Draft: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a large foamy head with good retention. Aroma consists of lightly sweet malt with fruity ester and tropical fruity hops. Taste is a good mix between some lightly sweet Belgian style malt with fruity ester and some hops with tropical fruits notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I quite enjoyed this one and really like the hops profile and the ester produce by the yeast.

2012-06-08. Hazy dark amber-brown body with a small beige head. 3+ Flavour is nice, with a malty core and modest spice, sort of peppery, light alcohol notes, and light biscuity touches to the malt. 7+ Aroma of alcohol, mild spice character similar to that in the aroma. 7+ Medium body that suits it and has a perfect moderate carbonation level. 3+ Pretty solid, my description here doesn’t really do it justice. On tap at Mondial, Montreal
