Strong fruity and chocolate aroma. Opaque black body is topped by a very weak and large bubbled head. Plenty of roasted malts with a sour cherry undertone that works with the bittersweet chocolate character. Medium full body with very low carbonation. I don’t think this bottle is at it’s best... Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at the brewery in July 2008.

Sampled draught at the Mondial, Montreal (May 2007). Opaque with a nice bit of lasting head, utterly black....aroma is at first dominated by plump dark grapes and prunes, but soon lovely roasty malts show up, and chocolate-covered cherries sweeten things up later....the body follows quite as you would expect, very fruity and chocolaty, blueberries bursting through chocolate frosting and light whispers of cherry sauce swirling around....little bitterness to go with the light roastiness until the very finish, when a faint burnt note arrives....low carbonation, could be fuller in the mouth. Still very, very solid.

750 ml bottle, fresh. Nice black pour with a thin creamy whitish head. Great aroma of milk chocolate, light grainy notes and fruit. Taste is sweet, lots of chocolate with some fruity fig like taste and a hint of roasted grain. Palate is smooth, relatively weak carbonation.

Sample from bill at Prohibition Pig, dark pour with creamy head. Notes are a little thin compared to the bourbon barrel version I had a month ago but not bad. Notes of smoke, roasty malt or grain, dark fruit, sweet figs, and some rust in the finish. Not bad.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown with a huge slowly diminishing creamy beige head and nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, roasted malt and caramel. Taste is sweet with chocolate (lots!), vanilla and caramel. Low to moderate carbonation. Not easily drinkable because of all the sugar. Good Baltic Porter with a nice chocolate profile.

Licorice, anise, sweet roasted malts, touch of coffee. A little on the sweet side. Carb is way too high, nice mouth feel, a touch wattery in the finish.

Richmond 20th. Dark brown, but clear. Little head. Aroma is lightly chocolate, a touch tart. Flavor is quite nice, lots of chocolate, some dark fruit. Pretty good.

Pours a black color with brown highlights and a medium, light brown head. Aroma of chocolate and vanilla beans, there’s a promise of luscious malt in there. Good flavor of chocolate with rich roasted malt and a dry, bitter finish. THe body is medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.
