Richmond 20th. Dark brown, but clear. Little head. Aroma is lightly chocolate, a touch tart. Flavor is quite nice, lots of chocolate, some dark fruit. Pretty good.

500 ml bottle via julienhuxley, shared with Billy, served cool in a tuumbler. NO21/09.

App.: Deep brown-black, so-so tan head. Aroma: INFECTED! Unpleasant organic acids, some nice deep malts underneath (the silver lining), generally bad. Palate: Medium+ body, gentle carbonation. Flav.: Some nice black coffee and dark chocolate notes, light fruitiness, marred by infection; lightly sweet, low bitterness inappropriate tang.

Quite unfortunate. Needs to be re-rated.

Pours a black color with brown highlights and a medium, light brown head. Aroma of chocolate and vanilla beans, there’s a promise of luscious malt in there. Good flavor of chocolate with rich roasted malt and a dry, bitter finish. THe body is medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.

Où, Quand, Comment : Dégustée en fût au Vices & Versa à Montréal (été 2007).
Visuel : Couleur : brune très foncée. Apparence : opaque.
Arôme : Fruité (petits fruits foncés), malt rôti, léger chocolat noir, notes de café.
Goût : Entrée de bouche : Goût fruité (petits fruits, notes de prunes). Une dominante de malt rôti est présente avec un goût de caramel toffee, un léger goût de chocolat noir ainsi qu’une légère amertume de houblon herbeux et des notes de café.
En bouche : Corps: moyen. Effervescence : moyenne. Texture : crémeuse. Finale : moyenne-longue et un peu sèche, léger-moyen amère de rôti, houblon herbeux avec des notes d’alcool, de café et de petits fruits.

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Aroma of palm oil, roast, with a slick, greasy, thick and steaky body to it. Light bitter in the mouth with good complexity, with lots of roasty coffee in there. Notes of root vegetables are present. Balanced and clean, kind of bourbony despite its lack of barrel aging. Chalky and creamy and easy drinking. I’m looking forward to trying the BBA’d version of this Fred provided.

On tap at the brewery, dark brown color, with some reddish highlights, and a beige head, nice soft roasted peanut, dark coffee, mild bitter chocolate, truffle nose with some faint yeasty fuity accents, and light roasted, black, chocolate, toasted malt note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a mild grated coconut, chocolatey praline, roasted, chocolate, toasted malt, light fruity character, with some dried raisin, blackcherry, mellow roasted coffee bean flavors, with a faint chocolate cake, chocolate truffle backbone, and a kind of bourbonish undertone, leading towards a light fruity, blackberry, chocolatey, faint lingering roasted bitterness finish.

Sampled at 08 vt beer fest. Pours a dark brown/black with a khaki head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and a hint of molasses. Flavor follows the aroma with a touch of fruit and has a dry and bitter finish.

Bottle shared with blankboy & garthicus at Volo, circa Dec 2008. Deep ruby with a small mocha head. Roasted malt aroma with a slight lactic sourness and hints of cold coffee. Medium bodied. Flavour is interesting - quite malty, but also a bit funky, plus notes of caramel and dry cocoa. Quite unique, and quite nice.

Tap Mondial. Deep rich smell of roast coffee, dark brown, ruby at the sides, small cappuccino head. Fine coffee flavour, dark chocolate, treacle, brazil nuts, liquorice. Full bodied,complex, very well balanced, bitter and bold. Great!
