3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 robinvboyer (2578) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 23, 2012
The description really nails this down. A rauch, berliner, saison.
Light hazy golden pour, with a small white frothy head. Aroma of light cereal malts, peppery herbs all wrapped in a nice dose of smoke. Loght nots of bacon mingle with the tart wheat, and light fruity esters. This is all over the place, but in a neat intriguing actually pleasant way! Way to go off the charts, super unique beer.

@Mondial de la Bière 2012, Montreal - hazy bright blond-orange beer with a little foam left; aroma of straw and popcorn; medium-bodied and pretty tasty; quite dry with a long corny finish; notes of straw and hay with lingering spicy notes

2012-06-07. Hazy pastel dark yellow, large off-white head and lace. 3+ Flavour is modest, light smoke grows slowly, pale malt, mild sweet cereals, light bitterness, hints at florals and orange blossom. Modest smoke in aroma, light grainy cereals. Smooth average plus body with very soft carbonation (it may have lost some in a fairly foamy pour). 3+ Decent it is quite flavourful for such a low abv beer. On tap at Mondial, 3T, Montreal
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Beershine (5173) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - JUN 6, 2012
Draft at Mondial. Hazy sunshine color. Aroma is a little phenolic but has orange peel. The body is light, low carbo. but meaty. Nice nutty yeast character and finishes dry. Underwhelming; seems too yeasty and needs more pop.

This is a weird one. Pours a light gold with a small frothy white top and good lacing. Aroma is roasted deli meats and wheat with sweetness. Taste has elements of roasted malts, deli meats, wheat and malts and some sweetness that is off set by the soft/harsh roasted notes. I couldn’t really get into it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Johnsense (454) - - FEB 24, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2013 Pale straw coloured pour, 1 finger of fizzy head the quickly disappears. Aroma of barnyard funk, smoke, yeast, sour, a bit of lemon - quite inviting. Smoked malts up front, barnyard funk, tart, wheat, yeast, loads of flavor at less than 4%. fairly well carbonated, thinner mouthfeel. Unique and worth revisiting.

God particle, baby. Seriously, my first thought on finding out what this beer was when I saw it on tap at Max’s was that, yes, this could be the basic stuff from which all other beer is derived. Smoked saison with brett? Yes, please. The kind of stuff that makes you consider having a kegerator and importing beer. A gorgeous pale gold pour, moderately hazy with a fine film of bubbles. Delightful nose of modest rauch and saison yeast, along with a plum tart note billowing at the core. Full, at times even lactic mouthfeel, just a hint of spice on the palate. Taste is so rad, Berliner via saison via rauch. I ordered pint after pint.

On tap at Vices et Versa. Strange beer, it claims to have a small layer of smoke but it is hard to taste much smoky flavour. Decent light malty taste with wheat flavour and a bit of bitterness. The beer manages to be different without being all that interesting, more a hodgepodge of styles that don’t really mix well. I think the biggest problem with this beer is that none of the individual influences are very strong. It is like you took a weak smoke beer and mixed it with a weak Berliner Weisse and a weak seasonal. The resulting beer is a weak mix of three weak beers. Easy to drink though, not offensive at all.
