Draft @ Prohibition Pig. 10 oz. snifter. Nose is malt and fruit. Kind of subdued. The flavor is where this shines. Figs, sugar, malt... Lots of malt. A mild Bitter hop can be found in the finish. The body could be called thin but... No! This is the easiest, young barely wine I ever sampled. Drink ability is amazing. Grab a snifter if you ever see this on draft!

Dégustée en fût au Brouhaha. De couleur rouge-ambrée et voilée. Nez fruité (raisins vineux, traces de prunes), malté de caramel toffee sucré aux notes rôties, moyen de houblon herbeux aux notes florales , léger de pain et de fumée de bois avec des notes d’alcool. Moyenne-ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen ainsi qu’une texture légèrement sirupeuse et aux notes huileuses. Goût fruité (raisins légèrement vineux, traces d’agrumes et de prunes) accompagné de petites notes fumées (fumée de cigarette) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté de caramel toffee aux notes rôties et terreuses avec un moyen goût de pain grillé ainsi que des traces de biscuits. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve une moyenne amertume de houblon herbeux, légèrement floral et aux petites notes résineuses jusqu’en finale, où se développe également un goût d’alcool réchauffant. Post-goût moyen-long, moyennement amer de houblon herbeux aux notes résineuses, moyen de fruits (moût de raisins vineux) et d’alcool, ainsi qu’avec des notes rôties. (28 novembre 2011)

Snifter as part of a flight at Le Saint-Bock with Andy, PJ and Niles. Pours a light, murky copper color with soapy lacing on the glass. Malty/yeasty aroma. Bitter tongue with some pear flavor. Too dry. Wasn’t a huge fan.

(Un verre au Saint-Bock) Un anneau de mousse sur un liquide à la robe bien rougeâtre. Une dentelle éparse. Un nez riche de caramel et de toffee avec des fruits mûrs et vineux. Une présence contrôlée des houblons. Un vin d’orge typiquement anglais. Des parfums qui rappellent le brandy. Des saveurs liquoreuses et fruitées, un alcool fort mais intelligent, un sucre contenu par des houblons anglais bien mordants. Une base maltée décadente. Une bière forte, propice aux rapprochements et aux extrêmes. Un corps bien gras avec un pétillement modéré. Une texture pratiquement collante. Une finale qui conjugue différentes saveurs et notes amères. Un alcool timidement chaud. Un vin d’orge intéressant qui ose être différent.

NO:This was very sugary. Strong caramel and bitterness. Almost nothing on the fruity side. I was very disappoined because I like every Hopfenstark beers and I thought this would be great but I wouldn’t take it again. YES: The palate was enjoyable.

A hazy orange amber to copper ale with a thin moka head. In aroma, a superb pungeant floral hops, pinhey and vinous, very classic. In mouth, a smooth caramel malt with floral hops, light grapefruits, treacle, vinous, classy and smooth. On tap at Mondial 2010.

Tap at Mondial 2010. Loved it on the moment but I was way too drunk when I had it to really describe the taste. I remember a good balance between the sweetness and a medium-intensity hopping, with that distinctive Hopfenstark yeast. Better than most american barley wines I had...

Pours a cloudy amber color with ruby highlights and a thin white head. Aroma of caramel, ashes and hops. Flavor of caramel, hops, cigarette ashes and finishes with a long lasting bitterness. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation. Not bad, but the ashes presence takes out a bit of the pleasure.

Rich mahogany in colour with a long lasting creamy tan head, excellent lacing. Aroma is lightly sweet, some caramel malts, fruit, light hops. Flavour is moderately bitter, good caramel sweetness, some floral hops, light alcohol. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, sweet, lightly bitter, warming.


Pretty good, nice balance and high drinkability.
