On tap at Saint-Bock. Pours a dark brown with a thin beige rim that surprisingly leave good lacing. Nose is quite simply of dark chocolate. Taste is of the same chocolate but this time you also get some licorice and roasted malt. Body is medium and carbonation just the same. Overall a nice stout, nothing harsh or out of balance.

Fiche technique Style: Foreign Stout

(tap at Cask Days 2014) clear very dark brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of tropical fruit ,stewed fruit; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish; half way between a stout and an ipa

Sweet and sugary stout. Like a coffee. Chocolate and even fruity notes. Tasty. Fluffy cotton candy aroma. Really good. Had this on draft at the Hopfenstark brewpub.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2013 tap on the premises. dark brown pour with a nice light beige head, some retention and lacing. dark fruity roastiness, burnt caramel - slightly ashy, minerals, booze, faint nuttiness, some burnt and bitter resin. moderate carbonation, light body - slightly lacking, grassy-mineral-bitter coffee finish. ok.

Well-done foreign stout. All the right mix of coffee and espresso here. Pours dark brown with amazing mocha-tinted head, especially for a cask beer. Nice bitter finish. Very well-balanced and well done overall. It’s nice to see Hopfenstark do a great beer that isn’t a saison. Great effort for one of the more uncommon styles out there. Cask Days 2013.

On tap at the montréal location, deep black color, with a tan head, nice mild mocha, cocoa, chocolate praline nose, with some light burnt dark fruit, burnt bran muffin, grainy roasted, black, chocolate, toasted, wheat cereal maltiness accents, with faint earthy tobacco, green floral hop note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good smooth vanilla, mochais, cocoa, chocolate cake, semi-sweet chocolate baking bar, mild sweet cold coffee character, with some nice light roasted, black, chocolate malty, roasted ground coffee bean, kind of burnt wood barrel, burnt bran miffin, dark molasses flavours, leading towards a mild burnt chocolate, black coffee, grainy roasted, toasted maltiness, leafy hop earthiness, roasty bitterness finish.

Draft at Pro Pig. Pours a rich black color with a khaki finger of foam. Roasted chocolate, smooth creamy mouthfeel, touches of coffee and dark fruit. Long roast on the finish with a touch of grassy bitterness.
