3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with a nice mocha head. Big aroma of piney hops and chocolate - like a black IPA on steroids. Bitter up front, Grapefruit and pine hops, fresh black coffee, dark chocolate, toasted malt, chesnutt. Thick mouthfeel, lace everywhere on the glass. A very interesting drinker for after dinner or to bunker up with during the frankenstorm.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown with a bubbly head. Smells lightly fruity and like it will be creamy. It is creamy with sugars - maybe too many but it is a foreign stout so there is leeway with that. Not much nuance, and perhaps lacks the heft, fruit and alcohol of the style. Reminds me of an oversized Irish stout.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at Mondial. Nice head, black body. Distinct apple pie aroma, which is unexpected and out of place. The baked apple comes out more in the flavors. Silky palate. Different.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Tap and Mallet. Black with a frothy brown head. Herbal nose, almost minty. Full body, but so easy to drink. Nice cocoa flavor, bold palate. This is a great harvest stout. The combination of the stout intensity and the clean freshness of the hops is amazing. Great stuff.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours opaque brown with a long lasting medium brown head. Aroma is that of freshly cracked and mashed barley on brew day; very clean wort aroma with virtually no evident fermentation profile. Taste is similar to aroma with with a flash or earthy green hops notes as well as hints of chocolate malt and coffee. Body is medium, active carbonation, long clean roasted barley finish. Overall, this is a beer that only a brewer can appreciate in its full spectrum of aromas and flavors. It truly retains the fresh bready aromas of the mash and boil of a fresh brew. I almost think they used a lager yeast for this.

Tap at Local Option. Dark black pour, off white head that laces a little bit. Aroma of fresh brewed coffee. Flavor is vanilla coffee ice cream bit with more roast than sweetness. Medium full palate. A good, good beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - 750ml. Opaque black body with low carbonation and a thin beige creamy head. Strong, complex malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate and roasty hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Robust, well balanced hoppy taste with malty, roasted coffee, plummy, and brown sugar notes. Ends with a long, sharp hoppy/roasty finish. Very well done!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Farmhouse, Burlington VT 12oz tap ($8.50): Pours a black color with a nice creamy brown head. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, toffee, booziness, and some other grand stuff. Taste is in the same element. Kind of sweet, but still very manageable. Chocolate and coffee, not quite espresso, but still cool. Good beer and could be either chuggable or sippable, depending on your mood. At this price, I prefer the latter.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Trou du diable brewpub. A dark, opaque ale with brownish, almost purple reflects. Light beige head with little retention. Mostly tastes of coffee, maybe a bit of very dark chocolate. Bitterness dominates. A strong cofee finish, with lingering coffee bitterness. Not as thick as I would’ve expected in mouth, has subtle, pleasant notes of alcohol considering its alcohol contents.
