Farmhouse, Burlington VT 12oz tap ($8.50): Pours a black color with a nice creamy brown head. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, toffee, booziness, and some other grand stuff. Taste is in the same element. Kind of sweet, but still very manageable. Chocolate and coffee, not quite espresso, but still cool. Good beer and could be either chuggable or sippable, depending on your mood. At this price, I prefer the latter.

On tap at Trou du diable brewpub. A dark, opaque ale with brownish, almost purple reflects. Light beige head with little retention. Mostly tastes of coffee, maybe a bit of very dark chocolate. Bitterness dominates. A strong cofee finish, with lingering coffee bitterness. Not as thick as I would’ve expected in mouth, has subtle, pleasant notes of alcohol considering its alcohol contents.

Cask. Rich cocoa with a lot of soft sweetness. Chewy but not cloying. Dark appearance with a thin brown head. Tasty stuff.

3oz pour at Max’s. Pours a watery, translucent black with zero head. Toast, brown sugar nose, a little rubbery, some leafy veg. Flavor is really good, toast, chocolate, a little leafy veg, brown sugar, sweet malt. Medium bodied, dry finish.
