Cask - Volo Cask Days 2010, Day 3 (session 7) - my last rating from 2010 - another great year!! 85 IBUs. Black with a solid frothy and lasting tan head. VERY hoppy aroma, tart - deep roast but it’s mostly the citrus/resin bitterness that comes across ... hardly any alcohol for 7%. Taste is more sour, much less hoppy - good, but I expected more from that aroma. Average body, a bit astringent and acidic, longish dry bitter finish (sneaky bitterness) after up-front maltiness ..... I enjoyed drinking this one, but an incredible aroma on it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A round creamy stout and a lot of green bitter hops in perfect harmony
How: Tap, a few times. This rating for a fresh pint directly at the brewery
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head
In long: Nose is very hoppy with a green fresh hops pellet signature on top of moderately roasted malts. Body is slender yet doughy and a bit fluffy. Roasted malts, oatmeal sensation (I don’t know if it actually uses oatmeal), burnt harzelnuts, some dried dark fruits and a whole lot of fresh green bitter hops. With its velvety body, hopping and round smooth flavors I thought it felt like some kind of uber-hoppy oatmeal stout. I liked it a lot. On tap. Poured black with a large brown head that lasted throughout the beer and laced nicely. Aroma had a strong roasted malt note with some coffee and a bit of dark chocolate as well as a dryness. Flavor was similar with strong roasted malts throughout, some coffee, a slight bitter hop note and quite a dry finish.

Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2010’ . Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a small diminishing bubbly tan head. Lovely hoppy & roasty aroma. Flavour of leafy green hops, lightly roasted dark malt and hints of coffee and nuts. Nice bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Awesome!

(Rating #3377)

[3443-20101029] Cask. Very mild spicy leaf aroma. Hazy, dark brown black body with quick bubbles. Lots of mid-tone notes in the flavour, nothing comes out in particular. Full body. Not bad.

750mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot, Dany), pours black with a medium foamy tan / light brown head. Aroma of fresh hops, moderate roasted malt, a bit of chocolate and a bit of coffee. Flavour brings out coffee, fresh hops galore, biscuity malt, and a little burnt stuff. The fresh hops come out big time here, leaving notes of fresh hops and roasted malt. Full-bodied and super easy drinking. Great stuff.

Draft at Mondial. Nice head, black body. Distinct apple pie aroma, which is unexpected and out of place. The baked apple comes out more in the flavors. Silky palate. Different.
