[1434-20080531] Tap. Smells like old barley sacks and a bit of sour yeast and light meats. Hazy, orange red body with a medium-lasting bubbly off-white head. Sour yeast flavour. Medium body. Quite good.

On tap at Volo Cask Days 08. A sour/tart nose with a hint of yeast. Cloudy orange/golden with a minimal white head. Taste is sour fruit, yellow plums, white grapefruit and starfruit come to mind. Light bodied, very well balanced, complex, tart, dry and most refreshing. Terrific.

Appearance : Hazy amber with a medium white creamy head. Lots of lacing.
Aroma : Woody ans acidic. Slightly lactic. Oak sourness.
Taste : Acidic, light woody. Light notes of rye. Quite fruity. Finish is acidic and dry. Finish is also a bit mineral. Carbonation really soft, almost flat.
Overall : Very nice looking. Great wood sourness. Nice wilderness and fruityness. This is not something I could drink more than one glass of because there is too much oak sourness and lactic notes. Carbonation was way too soft in my opinion but I’m pretty sure that it’s not that flat normally. The beer in general could also feel more polished.

Draft: Poured an amber color with a white head. The aroma was yeast, citrus and wood. The flavor was rye, fruit, wood, and a little sourness. Overall, a complex beer that might not be for everyone’s palate.

750ml bottle from trade. Exploded on opening, fountain of beer everywhere, probably 20% or more lost. Too bad, smells amazing. This was after more than 4 days of sitting in my cellar restfully. Ah well. What’s left pours a hazy medium gold, high carbonation (duh) with an ample cream head. Aroma is all over the room but in the glass it’s banana, light clove, rich honey sweetness, mild yeast, some bubblegum. Taste is rusty metallic in the first hit. Too bad, the other flavours of clove, banana, honey and gum get overwhelmed by this metal taste that just won’t go away. The underlying beer is quite lovely and perhaps less like a saison than like a Belgian Ale. Finish is slightly boozy, yeast mixed with gum and banana with that annoying metallic note still along for the ride. Damn, if it weren’t for the explosion and the metal I think I would rate this a fair bit higher.

Pours orange with a big foamy head that fades to a nice light off-white covering with lots of lacing. Nose is big floral with some grapefruit as well. Mouth has orange, maybe some lemon and then a little bit of a spicy finish. Some sour in the middle as well. Light-ish body with strong carbonation.

Capped 750 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy dark gold with a slight foamy off-white head. Aroma is a strange earthiness mixed with citrus. Med body. It’s earthy, and citrus, but it has a rather strong dose of phenolics. I don’t think this is infection - not a nasty sour thing - but rather unusual. Maybe it’s the rye reacting with the yeast.

Bottle - 750ml. Beautiful cloudy golden body with a thin white foamy head. Fresh, well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with yeasty and flowery hints. its sharp hoppy taste carries grainy, yeasty, and coriander notes. Ends with a sharp bitter/sour finish. Well done.
