COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison Station 55 is a red beer with veiled aspect, the taste of malt, hops and spices reminiscent of citrus coupled with a bitter finish. The 55 wants to be a hybrid between a Belgian beer terroir and IPA American type. It is seen against the brewing revival in Belgium.

Pours a lightly hazy golden with a medium white head that leaves intense lacing. Nose is perfumey and floral, also offers some nice pepper and light grass. Taste is dry-ish, bitter. Flavors are fruity but also of fresh grains. Finish is spicy/peppery and moderately long. Body is medium, carbonation made of really fine bubbles gives an also creamy mouthfeel. Overall a well made saison, one of the better ones from Quebec (it used to be king but competition stepped up both in quantity and quality in the last few years).

Pours a golden yellow with two fingers of off white head. Aroma is yeasty and peppery. Some pineapple. Mildly bitter but very smooth. Very nice beer.

Bottle from Champanes, this ale had a orange-gold pour with a little haze and gave about a one finger white/faint off-white cover that receded quickly, the glass had some streams of bubbles, and it left some spots and fingers of lacing on the sides of the glass, the bottle had a thin layer of medium brown sediment that broke loose as the bottle was poured, this ale had aromas of bread, light toasted malt, pear, a little lemon citrus, and a little floral and herb, some fruit and malt sweetness, as the glass warmed up there was some orange fruit notes, the flavors were orange and faint pear fruit, light malt, grass and herb hops, some spice, the hops were a little grassy and herb like, and the finish had spice and faint earth field flowers that left the palate mostly dry, the mouth feel was light to medium with some creaminess, it had soft to average carbonation, this drink starts with light fruit and malt, light spice and herb with a little sweetness and ends sort of dry with a earth flower/herb dustiness, it had a earth-herb hop IPA bitterness, this beer was better than the ‘Hopfenstark Saison 7’ but does not come across as a straight saison, it was more of a lightly spice Belgian with grass and herb hops, a hoppy Belgian IPA?, it was a nice drink.

On tap af Station Ho.st. Pours a clear gold with a large white head. Bright musk with a hint of lemon behind it. Medium-bodied, soft musk and a bit of lemon again, citrus and yeast. Alcohol is present into the finish, but not distracting in any way. Musk and dusty yeast finish things off. Very nice stuff.

(750 ml bottle brewed in may 2013) Nice foamy head on top of the glass ... I expected it to be more bitter but the balance of spices and pepper taste makes this beer quite original and delicious feel a small pineapple taste which is quite pleasant!! also has a quite good hop taste ... I totally recommend this beer ... not a masterpiece but it is what they advertised... thumbs up!

Bottle (7% ABV, brewed May 2013). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), moderately yeasty (dough, basement), with notes of apple skins, lemon zest, and alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Strange...all three of the Hopfenstark saisons have had ABV discrepancies between RB and the label (most notably Station 7)...so either they change from batch to batch or they’re labeling them differently for export. Anyways, this one’s decent enough but not nearly as good as the 16. This is more vague, apple-like and less bright aromatically, a bit more sweet, syrupy, and boozy, and just overall less impressive. Drinkable and almost enjoyable, but after the strong showing of the 16, I have to admit this is kinda disappointing.
