beerbuzzmontreal (2769), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 5, 2008 Nice aroma of brett, fruits and yeast. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin white head. Very good flavor of brett, fruits, yeast and spices with a mild bitter finish. The body is light with an oily texture and gentle carbonation. This is a very nice saison.
mabel (1710), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2008 [1270-20080410] bottle. Citrus hops and malty grains aroma. Murky, dark orange amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Bitter orange rind flavour has grainy malt, solid bread yeast and a slightly sour long finish. Bitter medium body. Quite tasty and interesting.

Aroma of sweet fruit, wheat and malt, cloudy golden yellow/orange. Flavour has malt start, soon the hops are singing their praises. Medium bodied, very well balanced, extra bitter and dry. Good example. Sammy (3242), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 31, 2008 Enjoyed at Mondiale 2008.A spicey aroma greats you. Medium mouthfeel, perry spicey tasty saison. Lacey on transarent body. The hops and the yeast together make this immensely drinkable. probstk (711), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Apr 23, 2008 500 ml bottle from the brewery via Lubiere (merci), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Orange-amber, clear, decent off-white froth.
Aroma: I get some Saison tang, funk and bitter green leaves, some toffee and brown sugar, some cotton candy esters, a bit of peppery hops, and some yeast.
Palate: Medium+ body, basically no carbonation giving a very slick and syrupy impression.
Flav.: The Saison characteristics start and dominate, the IPA-like notes are less prevalent, the peppery hops is present; slightly off-dry with a touch of brightness, a bit of alcohol burn and a decent bitter kick right at the last second; the bitterness lingers a bit with a sort of tropical fruit and nuts finish.

Hmmm. To me, this was not a success. The flavour characteristics of the two “mother” beers don’t seem to jive. I dig the fusion idea and hope that Ho.st tries more, as do other brewers.
