COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unfiltered, top-fermented wheat beer brewed with dark roasted malted wheat and caramelized malted wheat in addition to pale malted barley. The complex flavors produced by the Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen yeast strain are enhanced by the roasted flavors from the dark malts.

Keg at Hopmonk Tavern, Sonoma, 28/04/14. Murky orange amber with a moderate beige covering that retains well. Nose is banoffee pie, clove, banana smoothie, spice. Taste comprises banoffee pie, stewed dates, fruit loaf, light vanilla, spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Nice dunkelweizen - the best of the 4 Hompmonk beers I had!

UPDATED: JAN 7, 2014 On tap @ Hopmonk Sebastopol. Hazy amber colored beer with a small white head. The nose is quite buttery. Not pleasant. Banana, toast, and some caramel. Brown sugar sweetness and a bit of bubblegum. Flavor is very sweet. Less buttery, fortunately. Toast, caramel, bubblegum, and banana. Minimal, if any, spice.

Very malty nose. Surprisingly sweet with citrus notes in flavor. Minimal bitterness but some floral hop notes. Quite good and somewhat unexpected fruitiness for a dunkelweizen. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thick white head while cloudy amber color in beer. To the nose is ripe banana bread with baking spice. The taste is a sweet malty with lingering taste of banana at the end.

On tap at Hopmonk. Cloudy brown pour with a thick white head. Aroma is bready, biscuity, some hef notes. Yeasty. Flavor is pretty not good. Biscuity, weirdly metallic, lots of pennies. Sweet and malty. A little to sweet. Not very good.

This beer has a very sweet aroma. It is a dark cloudy brown. It is very light tasting for such a dark beer and has a banana bread flavor. You can really taste the hef notes from the yeast. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A very interesting beer! Tasty! Pours a really nice cloudy orange, with a white head. Smells lightly of bananas and pepper. Taste is pure bananas, creamy, tropical fruit, malty. Banana aftertaste. Very good and different. Had on tap at the brewery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap: hazy brown with a thin white head. Aroma is clove, banana, caramel, and a little yeast. Flavor is sweet with caramel and banana with a bit of lemon and clove spiciness. Palate is sweet and spicy with decent carbonation, could use a little more IMO. Good flavors easy warm weather drinking.

A hazy dark amber weizen with a thin off white head. A rather intense sweet berry aroma, cranberry, buttery and cloying. In mouth, an intense oily banana bread, light lactic notes, a bit thin and simple. On tap at brewpub, August 16 2009.
