2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DavoleBomb (1467) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Poured into a perfect pint.
4.25 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy light brown head. Retention is good and a thick ring of lacing is left.
3.0 S: This, like a lot of recent HF beers, is full of hops. I like hops, but not in stouts, so I’m not confident that I’ll like this going forward. Herbal and citrusy hops are the foremost flavor. Underneath the hops is a strong roastiness, hints of chocolate, and the neutral wheat does come out. The roastiness and the hops really don’t mesh well in the nose.
2.75 T: The taste is more of what I was expecting. Roastiness is at odds with the hop flavor and bitterness. Herbal, citrus hops with a light woodiness to it. Lots of roastiness, chocolate, caramel, and wheat. It’s not bad if this flavor profile is what you are into, but it’s below average for the hoppy stout style.
3.25 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Faintly creamy, but good enough here.
3.0 D: The hoppy stout thing is getting out of hand. I want the two styles re-separated.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 superspak (1537) - Michigan, USA - MAY 22, 2013
22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in December 2012. Pours dense pitch black color with a small dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt, wheat, toast, coffee, orange zest, floral, pine, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt notes with a good amount of hop presence; and good strength. Taste of cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt, wheat, toast, light coffee, light smoke, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, wheat, toast, roasted malt, light pine, floral, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors with a good amount of hop presence; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial stout. All around nice balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors with moderate hop presence; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 AWISLguy (694) - Wisconsin, USA - APR 27, 2013
Bomber from Sendiks in Brookfield. Pours a very dark brown with a brownish head. Almost no lacing. Aroma has chocolate, caramel and molasses with a definitive slightly spicy wheat presence. Taste is of sweet cocoa, lots of roasted malt and some bakers chocolate providing nice bitterness. Dry and smoothly bittersweet. This is quite tasty. Would categorize as a stout as it does not have the imperial depth. Very enjoyable offering.

Bottle thanks to StFun! Dark black pour, spotty thin carbonation and an aroma of dark bakers chocolate. Flavor is lightly maltly, dark roasty chocolate, dry and slightly hoppy on the finish. Not too bad, but no where close to being as good as their usual imperial stouts.
