3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 KickInChalice (842) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 27, 2012
Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tulip.
Like the regular BORIS, the appearance is a mahogany brown with a slightly transparent edge. A tan frothy head leaves a weird island on top.
The aroma has a bit of booze in front of the aroma. Smooth roast malt, dark chocolate, whiskey, oak, and vanilla create a bid of an acrid aroma.
The flavor never really develops a sweetness, unlike the base beer. Dark chocolate, some coffee grounds work around a whiskey, oak, and vanilla blend. It is smooth, but the flavors just don’t really develop.
The mouthfeel is lighter than the regular beer, with a boozier feel on the tongue and the stomach. It has light carbonation and a stickiness on the lips.
I found this underwhelming compared to the regular version. The whiskey dries the beer out and reduces the distinctness of the individual flavors.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 readbaron (70) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 27, 2012
This is a bit of a dissapointment. I was looking forward to this one. Smells nice, some marshmallow, bourbon, cocoa. However it’s very thin which pulls down everything else. The flavor is nice but somewhat muted.
