4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 zizzybalubba (1161) - Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA - APR 21, 2011
22 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Pours black with a thin brown head. Amazing aroma of vanilla, coconut, oak, and booze with faint notes of chocolate. The flavor is everything you would imagine; rich dark chocolate and roasted coffee are the dominant flavors but there is enough oak, vanilla, and coconut to give this the extra character I had hoped for. The mouthfeel is creamy and the alcohol is just enough to smack you in the face and let you know it’s there but not enough to knock you on your ass. World class and worth every penny.

Rating #100 for the beer and #800 for me. 22oz bottle of batch 2. Pitch black pour with a thin light brown head. Chocolate nose with vanilla and oak and a hint of booze. Whiskey flavor up front with oaky vanilla. Coffee follows next, makes room for chocolate, then shows up again for the finish. Barrel-aging well executed. Not overdone. Made an amazing beer even better.

A VERY sticky and heavenly stout. Rich, wonderful, and everything a good stout should be. Has a big coffee finish but is sweet and smooth at first. Pours nice and thick! I try alot of stouts, but i feel that this is truly one of the best i’ve had!

This has became one of my favorite beers of all time. This is so smooth and delicious. Dark and sexy. Dry and full flavored. Easy to drink. Nothing really wrong with this.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2011 Bottle. Black with a minimal brown head forming in a ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma is wonderful, smoother and rounder than the regular Boris: port, vanilla, chocolate pralines, perhaps Mozartkugeln. Taste: raisins, chocolate pralines, liqueur, port, sweet, round flavours. Creamy and oily body. Definitely a sipping beer. Great!
Update:
Bottle. pitch black, creamy light brown head. Aroma: oatmeal cookies with chocolate. Taste: chocolate, raisins, oatmeal cookies, vanilla, toffee.
4.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 heminator (62) - Virginia, USA - MAR 13, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2012 This beer might be the best thing to come out of Akron, Ohio since The Black Keys. I honestly don’t know what I can say that hasn’t already been said about the deluge of award this beer has one, but it’s freaking delicious. Smoooooooth, with a malty sweetness and deceptive complexity. I am extremely pleased to be able to pick this up in the neighborhood. Not much to be say that hasn’t already been said, except to say its a strong contender for the for the best stout out there.

Poured oily black with thin tan head, beer kept its carbonation for a long time. Aromas of coffee and chocolate. Taste was very sweet and bitter pike coffee, enjoyed this drink with some brownies that use this same beer in the batter and the glaze on top. Extremely rich and decadent dessert. Outstanding beer.
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 n0mel (250) - FINLAND - OCT 11, 2012
(From notes 5 Oct, 2012) Bottle. Pitch black color. The head is brown and disapears immediately. The aroma is fantastic: caramel/vanilla, coffee, coconut, chocolate. Flavor is a strong coffee with chocolate, bitter and warming. Silky smooth in the mouth. This was a stupendous imperial stout.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Star80 (14) - Illinois, USA - APR 20, 2013
Smells like coffee, chocolate, whiskey and dark malt. Not as much whiskey in the nose as some beers. Pours out a almost pitch black color, head was about 1/2 inch very dark color, recedes into fine bubbles on the edge of the glass. Wow tastes really nicely balanced between the expresso coffee notes, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Really nice mouthfeel too. There is a nice alcohol warming but it isn't hot, which is great for the style. Overall a dn good bourbon stout that is rich, smooth and finely balanced. My first Hoppin' Frog and I'm quite impressed!

Amazing beer, start to finish. The mouthfeel on this beer is so velvety and seamless that it defies description. The flavor is high on malt with notes of milk chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon. Outstanding to say the least.
