COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made from our award-winning imperial stout, rated one of the top 50 best beers in the world in 2008. This bodacious oatmeal Russian imperial stout will crush you like no other. This is the grand-daddy of all stout styles, with an intensely deep roasted and full bodied flavor. A robust hop character adds a refreshing balance. Aged in Heaven Hill Whiskey barrels.

Shared by MikeTD at Flossmoor. Great brew! Thick body with big chocolate notes in the nose. Lots of great chocolate flavor with hints of vanilla and a very faint hint of oak. Wonderful barrel aged stout, that does not get overpowered in any way by the barrel.

Bottle shared by stopbarking. Thanks Daniel! Pours dark black with a short to medium lived tan head. Smell is chocolate, bourbon, vanilla. Taste is rich chocolate, balanced bourbon and vanilla. Pretty rich, viscous mouthfeel on this one and a hint of spiciness from either the alcohol or the oak. Fantastic stuff, and easily one of my top 5 beers as this is just what I want in a barrel aged imperial stout. Awesome beer!

Batch 1!!! Unending thanks to danielcurtis81 on his wedding week. Pours oily pitch black with thin dark tan layer of head. Aroma is mostly strong barrel and coffee with chocolate and molasses and other teasers, very, very enticing. Taste is more of the same amazingness: vanilla bourbon barrel, bitter-sweet chocolate, sugar cookie, dark roasted malt, SO smooth and SO creamy with a slight alcohol component that compliments that weight of this beer perfectly. What a dream come true! This is a phenomenal beer.

Pours jet black with faint tan ring around the top. Smell is toffee and molasses with chocolate and coffee notes. Taste up front is a large amount of chocolate with some molasses sweetness, a bit of whisky taste that leads into a smoky and bitter finish from the hops. What a fantastic brew, but definitely a sipper!

Bomber from both Capone’s and Craft Ale. Pours very dark black with 1-finger brown head. Looks good and assertive, which this style should. The nose is dark choc, dark patent malt, molasses, oats, oaky, vanilla. Very complex and inviting aroma. The taste is very smooth, with oaky bourbon, a semi-sweet dark choc flavor, dark malt, and oaty ovaltiney notes. Complex in the flavor also, and very well balanced, rich, and easy to drink. As it warms, I noted some hybrid cognac, port, and blackberry notes. This one is delicious, with extremely well hidden alcohol. We should not forget that the brewer of this, Fred Karm, is the same guy who made the original Siberian Night, so the guy knows his Impy Stouts. My calculations give 1892 as the final bottle count on this, so you should get ya some fast.

Poured black with brown, lacing head. Aroma is mouth watering, with oatmeal, marzipan, molasses, rum, banana, vanilla and coffee jumping out immediately. Dense, heavy, oily body with low carbonation. Diesel oil at its best. Smooth, very well balanced, outstanding!

Number 400 Aroma of cocoa, caramelized fruit, vinegar, and burnt wood. Dark chocolate, resin, rye bread-not overly sweet with some alcohol burn. Last beer rating of my forties.

Bottle with big thanks to drowland. He sent this to me for my birthday! Hoppin Frog is based out of Akron, Ohio. This is the barrel aged version of their BORIS Imperial Stout. Pours a very dark black color with a tan head. Aroma is big bourbon and charred oak wood. This is very nice. Lots of dark malts and heavy bourbon. Some vanilla notes also. Flavor is dark chocolate, bourbon, wood, vanilla, dark malts, maple syrup and thick molasses. This is also amazing! Very impressed with this one.

Poured into a snifter. 2010 vintage. Split the bomber with a buddy. 4.0 A: Pitch black color. One finger of creamy/frothy hybrid light brown head. Retention isn’t that great and leaves just a touch of lacing. 5.0 S: In your face aroma. Lots of dark chocolate, surpisingly intense coffee, and roasted barley. The bourbon is just as intense as I like. It complement the beer without dominating the aroma. Leather, vanilla, and wood are secondary. Mix of strong aromas than all complement each other well. 5.0 T: Taste mirrors the nose closely. Lots of coffee, some dark chocolate, and good amount of roasted barley. Again, the bourbon does not dominate, but rather complements. Bourbon, oak, vanilla, and leather, but no astringency to be found. Mild toastiness and a touch of smoke. Just really, really tasty. 4.5 M: Heavier medium to lighter heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and super smooth. Could benefit from a bit more body, but overall this is good here. 5.0 D: I’ve had this a couple times in the past, but it’s never been as good as this bottle. Perfect bourbon contribution without the pesky tannins that sometimes accompany. Hoppin Frog makes some great beer and this might be the apex of quality. I could drink another bomber and still want more. Just an overall really solid brew. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-12-2010 03:35:49

Almost black with a small dark brown head. Aroma is quite sweet, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla and a little alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. Smooth and oily. Great balance. 160711
