4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured black hue with an average creamy light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Aroma was a heavy toasted malt, strong coffee and dark whiskey aroma. Medium to heavy body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex toasted malt, vanilla and dark alcohol flavor and a medium to heavy complex sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Very good brew.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared at the Coffee District in Delray Beach, FL. Snifter. Pours a jet black oil with a mocha rim and head. Head gone in 30 seconds. No real lacing. The powerful aroma was dark chocolates, roasted malts, oak, booze, vanilla, nuts and caramel. The taste was just as complex with the oak and dark chocolate permeating first, then came the vanilla, roasted malts, nuts, etc. The finish is very oaked with a soft bourbon booziness. Full body, moderate carbonation, packed full of flavor and aromas. Very well done.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ The Bruery, shared by GT. Black pour with a tan head. Bourbon, roast, and booze on the nose. Kind of sharp, maybe a touch of solvent. Big time dark fruits and chocolate. Flavor has a nice plum and chocolate sweetness. Strong bourbon, vanilla, and roasted malt. A ton of oak, too.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 oz bottle. Shared in the line at the 4 Elf Party. The pour is black, inky and oily with a nice thickness. There is a medium tan head that fades quickly leaving a light lace behind. The aromas are delightfully complex. There is a beautiful roasted chocolateyness and the vanilla and bourbon notes are pretty great as well. There is a light licorice or dark fruit note in the nose that definitely comes through in the taste. The bourbon and light roasty smokiness come through a little more on the aftertaste as well. The mouth feel is perfect. It is thick, oily, and just coats amazingly. The flavors linger, and seem to get a little more complex as they sit on the palate.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber to snifter (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; a fairly opaque and viscous dark cola with mocha lacing. Smells good too; dark malt, chocolate, oak, and smooth bourbon. Tastes like it smells with some cherry too. Nice and smooth on the palate. Excellent beer!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
651mL thanks to beerman6686! Pours clear, near black. Minimal reddish foam. Nose is fruity strawberry, cheesecake, brownie. Warming up it gains of chocolate mousse, but nothing comes across as bourbon barrel let alone PVW. Taste is boozy, dense, mild dark chocolate balance- gains some familiar BORIS notes but it isn’t as agressive. Palate density is spot on at least. But no bourbon barrel character. Disappointing :/

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a jet black color with a tan head. Aroma was of chocolate milk, bourbon, roasted malts, light smoke cand coffee grinds. Falvor was similar, really needs some warmth to show its depth, deep dark roast, dark chocolate and fudge with some smoke bitternesss and a nice oaky strong bourbon finish. Nice.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: DEC 5, 2013 AROMA- Understated bourbon and roast initially, followed by chocolate and dark fruits. An ideally balanced nose. I held off on the first sip so I could just keep smelling this beer. Nothing in your face. Just so smooth, balanced and inviting.
APP- Blackity-black. Like Wesley Snipes. Thick mocha head that slowly dissipates. Ring of head clings to the glass once the head has dissipated. Coats the glass with lacing as you drink. Just a beautiful beer.
TASTE- Definitely let this beer warm for a few minutes. The bourbon shines through at cellar temperature. Follows the nose almost to a T. Dark fruits, chocolate, roast, bourbon. Again, so damn smooth. Thank you dear Pappy.
PALATE- Very little carbonation. Pretty friggin’ thick beer here. Not quite as thick as the BA DORIS, but it is not lacking in viscosity. Bourbon and chocolate stick to every taste bud.
OVERALL- A great example of what happens when you take a phenomenal base beer and age it in "special" barrels. I was able to get two cases. Kinda wishing I had another friend pick up a 3rd for me. I want to drink this forever, therefore I’m laying a couple down to revisit in a year. I would advise you to seek this out. Hoppin’ Frog’s BA beers continue to impress.
