Imperial Stout rating #100! Bottle in trade from jbwimer. Excited for this one. Pours pitch thick viscous black into my Teku glass with a full two finger dark brown head that looks super creamy. Aroma of whiskey, oak, wet dog, oats and graham crackers. Flavor is big sweet chocolate up front with a hint of vanilla and light bourbon. Mid palate had some graham cracker and nuttiness come in, and then it finishes long with vanilla and more graham cracker. Velvety thick viscous body with low carbonation but still a small prickle of bubbles in there. Excellent beer and very glad I got to try it. It has been a whole since I had the base or the regular BA BORIS, but this seems to come off better than both for me. Yum.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
Lengthy dark chocolate notes are developed by this Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, moving into roastiness and its bitterness with a few candied fruit angles.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the brown-edged darkness.
-Fruit jam subtleties appear here and there.
-Barrel presence doesn’t overshadow the actual beer, which I appreciate.
-Alcohol is rather delicate for a brew this huge.
-This doesn’t taste any more special than the ‘regular’ Boris, so I’d still buy the ‘regular’ one over this barrel-aged version if given the choice.

Bottle split at that legendary January 3rd 2014 tasting, aka the not to small tasting, big ole dankts to LK Smith for this bonus goodness.
Mid black with a good dirty tan head that quickly dissipates to a pond and edgework.
Nose is dark malts, sweet aromas, light roast, bourbon notes, toffee.
Taste comprises rich brown sugars, dark toffee fudge, light roast, chocolate, subtle bourbon twang.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth feel.
Solid BA impy, a really easy drinking affair for the ABV!

22oz bottle, Thanks Greg! Hmm so the mythical PVW barrel comes to light, its a nice beer good and flavorful but the BORIS is still the star here, thick and oily the beer is full of flavor, the PVW barrel adds a little of the typical flavors but i don’t get the coconut i’m used ot with other PVW aged beers. still tasty but not earth shattering, first time you had your favorite beer good.

Mega Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Good sourish dark chocolate. Light wood and vanilla. Good bourbon, mellow. Little dark fruits. Light dry finish.

Bottle at that massive Friday tasting. Big shout-out to L-Dogg for this cheeky offering. It pours near black with small beige head. The nose is toasty, roasted malt, earth, coffee, dark chocolate and wood. The taste is rich, oily, coffee, rich chocolate, charred wood, some dried fruits and vanilla with a dry finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Smooth, slick and pretty tasty stuff. Comes together rather well. Nice.

Bottle at the big tasting. Going off the sheet for this one. Just what we need. Cheers to Leighton (I think). Pours black with a small bubbly tan head. Nose is very peppery with dark and bitter chocolate, oaky vanilla and spices. Taste is vanilla, sultana, stewed dark fruits, brown sugar, pepper and bitter dark chocolate. Sweet throughout with a very bitter linger. Solid

Bottle shared at the Brokeback Revisited Tasting. Thanks to GT for hooking it up. Pours brown-black with a creamy tan head. The nose has milk chocolate and burnt marshmallows. Medium sweet with some torched wood, baking cocoa, scorched earth, dried dark berries. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced finish with baking cocoa, dried berries, raisins, charred earth, dry wood. Overall, great depth and balance. Very drinkable.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2014 Bomber - perfect example that barrel does matter. Compared to the Jameson whiskey barrel version this is incredibly smoother and more balanced. Plenty of coffee and vanilla with the nice smooth burn of a quality bourbon. Gorgeous beer with a nice mocha head. If you are a lover of BA Boris seek this out.
