Aged in very special Kentucky whiskey barrels to add a super smooth, buttery, and complex whiskey character to our multi-award winning BORIS The Crusher Oatmeal Imperial Stout. Richer and bolder than our standard Bourbon Barrel Aged BORIS Stout, this rare version is a testament to our hard work and dedication in bringing our customers the very best.

Bottle shared by "Douglas88". Colour...basic black with a thick tan head. Nose...nicely Bourbony with anise and dark chocolate. Palate...dry, oaky and semi-sweet with licorice whips, cocoa mass and burnt raisins. There’s a massively viscous feel across the palate and the finish is quite long and oaky.

On tap at brewpub <br /. The primary reason for making the drive to Akron was to sample this on draft. After doing so I can say that, while a world class beer, I am glad I did not have to wait in line for hours to try it. On par with other barrel aged BORIS versions it might be a little strong on the bourbon. That established if you come into a bottle find some friends and enjoy a great beer.

Aroma / Appearance - An inky black base and creamy tan head look much like any other variety of barrel aged imperial stout from Hoppin’ Frog. Chestnuts, mushrooms, coffee, and dark chocolate hang in the air but the main driving factors are vanillla, oak, and the tang of a Van Winkle whiskey.

Flavor / Palate - Raspberries, dark chocolate, cream, and vanilla fill the mouth with a rich boozy texture. The bourbon follow through has all the hallmarks of a Van Winkle (or Wellers) bottle toned down to beer strength. Plum, coffee, and smoke round out a rich robust experience. If not for the price and relative scarcity compared to the Irish version this would be higher on my list. Even so it does not fail to deliver a world class experience.

Bottle. Pours syrupy, oily black with caramel bordering. Thick frothy tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, toffee, faint cocoa. Taste is sweet caramel, boozy notes, charcoal, plum, molasses. Impressively smooth and silky. So glad to get a bottle of this.

Sampled at bottle share. Have to say this was the disappointment of the night. Maybe it was because I had the 09 BCS before this but it was sort I a letdown. Thin. Flavors were very subtitle. It was balanced and smooth but otherwise not impressed.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is awesome. I get some huge chocolate and whiskey notes as well as a hint of oak. The flavor is somehow even better than the aroma. I get some huge oak and chocolate notes as well as some delicious bourbon and cream notes. The flavor and aroma complement each other very well. The whiskey is very well integrated into the beer. It adds to the base beer without overpowering it. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Awesome stout.

22oz bottle. Shared with Jay and Pam. Nearly pitch black color. Thin lighter brown head. Leaves very nice lace. Awesome barrel character, cookie dough, brown sugar. Good, chewy, creamy texture. Lighter, creamy carbonation. More dry finish. Awesome moderate sweet taste, nothing close to cloying though. Moderate bitter, too. Alcohol well-hidden. Fantastic, complex stuff. Even Pam (who usually is a wine person) adored this. Dark bitter chocolate. Light hints of coffee, roast. Awesome, awesome stuff. One of the best beers I’ve had in a while.

Bottle, thanks Mike. Pour is pitch black with a small tan ring head. Aroma is of molasses, bourbon, chocolate, burnt toast, and brown sugar. Flavor is upfront with the bourbon at first but transitions into a nicely balanced finish - notes of wood, vanilla, chocolate cake, brown sugar, and fudge.

Boom! Black pour, brown head. Rich chocolate with huge vanilla and rich bourbon notes. Creamy, thick, oily and awesome.
