COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aged in bourbon whiskey barrels to add a wonderful complexity to our massive American Double Imperial Stout. This barrel aging imparts memorable buttery, vanilla-like, and savory whiskey character, making this one of our most complex beers we’ve ever brewed. Another testament to our hard work and dedication in bringing our customers the very best.

2200th review! 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in Fall 2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, vanilla, toffee, toast, molasses, char, vanilla, oak, bourbon, light clove, herbal, and roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light clove, light char, herbal, and roast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of earthy roast/oak bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, coffee, toast, dark bread, light char, vanilla, toffee, oak, clove, bourbon, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great balance of roasted malt and oak bitterness/sweetness with no cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged imperial stout. All around great balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Half pint at the tasting room on 4/5/14. Pitch black color with a dark brown chocolate milk head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is straight up bourbon at first, giving way to chocolate, vanilla and oak before a bitter, roasty finish. Outstanding brew and I grabbed a bottle to age.

22 oz. bottle via local trade. Thanks, Del! Pours an inky opaque brown with a tiny dark tan head that disappears quickly and leaves a slim ring. Aroma of big chocolate, molasses, oats, oak, vanilla, brown sugar, roast, and soy. Flavor of charred oak, roasted malts, dark chocolate, soy, earth, oak, and whiskey. Finishes boozy and warm. Medium-bodied, with almost no carbonation and a smooth, too-thin mouthfeel. A little bit of a letdown after so many excellent imperial stouts from these guys.

Bottle with thanks to artmcd8! Pours opaque black with a small black head that dissipates fairly quickly but has a nice residual that laces well. Aroma is roasty, dark chocolate, some bourbon, vanilla. Flavor is light sweet and quite bitter, lots of roasted notes and dark bakers cocoa, some vanilla, a bit of whiskey but not strong. Full body, kinda creamy. This is pretty tasty, but not world class.

Was looking forward to this given that DORIS with 2 years may be my favorite stout. The big thick oily mouth feel is still very much in play but the flavor is a little bit off from the non-barrel version. Not sure which barrels were used but I would like to try this again using a premium type barrel. It certainly doesn’t suck but a little below expectations.

Bottle thanks to Jstax ! Pours a deep black with dark khaki foam. The nose is heavy heavy roast lots of dark bakers chocolate and some underlying bourbon sweetness and booze. On the palate there is a lot of earthy dark bitter chocolate, heavy roast as apparent in the nose, a touch of dark fruit and leather with great whiskey character bringing all the flavors together and adding some complex sweetness in the linger.

Bottle thanks to George. Pours a dark brown with small creamy tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roast, oak, chocolate. Thick mouthfeel with rich chocolate malt, oak, nuttiness, and light dry finish. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle from Lazy Dog. Pours deep dark opaque black with a reddish rust brown colored head. Aroma of oak, booze, and vanilla. Taste of dark fruit and smokey wood.

Shared bomber viscously poured to "wedding fest" goblets, showing a thoroughly opaque, "Guinness-like" black/brown color, with thick & bubbly, caramel brown head foam, and a combination of syrupy legs, and waves & spots of lacing on the glass. The nose was very roasty, with dark chocolate dominating the mocha notes, some dark fruit sweetness, barrel induced vanilla, and lurking, bourbony alcohol. Full bodied, with soft carbonation, warming but not overly boozy alcohol, some creaminess to the mouthfeel, and raisiny sweetness with just touches of tanginess and tanniny astringency finishing on the tongue. Big, very bold, and well suited for the occasion.

Bomber thanks to Dan. Pours a pure dark, couldn’t be blacker color with a tiny white head. A light smoky nose, barrel, dark fruit, vanilla. The beer has loads of depth to it like a Brew Dog Paradox, smoke, oak, vanilla, heavy dark fruit, very warm but not distractingly so, viscous body. Cocoa, some berries, whiskey. Damn good.
