Aged in bourbon whiskey barrels to add a wonderful complexity to our massive American Double Imperial Stout. This barrel aging imparts memorable buttery, vanilla-like, and savory whiskey character, making this one of our most complex beers we’ve ever brewed. Bottle shared by tom10101, thanks Tom! Pours a dark brown with a roux head that quickly diminishes to a small rim that leaves some lacing. Nose is of roasted malt, chocolate, light licorice and smoke. Taste is of dark chocolate, caramel, bourbon, grapes and moderately hot. Body is full, carbonation restrained and mouthfeel smooth and rich. Overall a pretty good barrel-aged imperial stout.

Bottle (22 oz). From OntBeerTaster, thanks! Split 5-ways.

Appearance: Black with a small diminishing brown head and little to no lacing.

Aroma: Roasted malts, whiskey, mild vegetal notes, molasses, vanilla, liquorice and dark chocolate.

Taste: Moderately sweet with roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, whiskey, vanilla, vegetal notes, liquorice and oak.

Palate: Full body. Moderate carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. A bit silky as well, probably from the oatmeal but the barrel treatment made it a little bit less silky than the regular version I think. Oaky finish. Nice warmth.

Overall: Another tasty, complex and well-balanced RIS from Hoppin’ Frog. Their base RIS are solid and can handle the different barrel treatments really well. Very good.

Bottle @ home, thanks to arminjewell. Pours a black appearance with a very dark brown head. The aroma is big and roasty, a little ash, very rich dark chocolate, light caramel, thick whiskey, and oatmeal. Full body. Very rich. Tons of dark chocolate, rich coconut, boozy whiskey flavor. A fair amount of oak, lots of booze. Drinks quite nice for a balls to the wall impy stout.
