Pours dark ruby brown with a nice 1/2" thick beige head. Smells of nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, oak and touch of raisin, it reminds me of french toast and a hint of booze. The flavors are nicely balanced and the barrel isn’t over bearing. Cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, raisin, slight cherry note and some booze. Palate is medium and it finishes spicy but well rounded with a nice vanilla notes from the barrel aging.

22oz bottle (2010). Rating #37 and my 2000th rating! Nice looking beer, clear dark reddish/brown color with a tan head. Big sweet spicy aromas, lots of nutmeg and cinnamon with some ginger maybe, very potent and quite enticing. Lots of holiday flavors, more cinnamon and a good amount of bourbon and wood, really nice stuff, might be good mulled. (2000)

Sample from a 22 oz. bottle shared at RBWG 11. Pours brown in color with a small beige head. The aroma had big Christmas spices, sweet caramel malts and a touch of bourbon. The flavor has the Christmas spices(ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon), but the bourbon barrel seems to balance this out a bit. Caramel malt sweetness makes up the base for this beer. I thought this was pretty good for a Christmas specialty beer.

From the bottle, a dark, transparent amber. Smells spicy and sweet. Tastes the same, with caramels. Too thinly bodied. Some fantastic brewers make a misstep, and this one is Hoppin’ Frog’s.

FROTHINGSLOSH (4547) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 17, 2011
Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-brown color with a medium sized orange-tan head that left some lacing. The aroma was strong cinnamon, nutmeg and candied ginger. The flavor was sweet cinnamon, nutmeg and candied ginger with a malty and nutty middle followed by more spice that fairly overwhelmed the taste buds. The finish was long nutty and spicy. Fairly full bodied. Solid.

Poured from a bottle. Thanks, Dan (I guess)! Smells like candy canes, tastes like candy canes. Barely any body to this one. This is not what I want from a beer at all.

22oz traded bottle from 2010 at Chad and Monica’s house. Pretty tasty overall. Big cinnamon and nutmeg in the aroma but I thought it was tamed in the flavor; a little vanilla and booze from the barrels. Very nice and drinkable.

Pours dark brown. Tastes and smells of cinnamon, vanilla, dark fruit, more cinnamon. They killed these beers with way too much cinnamon.

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2011 bottle at pre-rbwg 3/4/11. dark bronzy brown with a small off white head. big ’ol cinnamon nose mixed with black pepper and vanilla.... also, it smells like when you open a fresh bag of frosted ginger snaps...mmmm, i love me some ginger snaps! the flavor is luckily the same... with some bourbon-like spice, sweetness and wood in the aftertaste. slick smooth medium/full body. i don’t usually go for xmas beers but this is great! 8/4/8/4/17 amazing what the barrel did to this!
