COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On a recent trip through Belgium visiting the monastery breweries, we discovered an excellent barrel aged ale that had an incredibly satisfying flavor combination. Aging in oak barrels added a memorable richness, that we seek to achieve with this barrel aged Belgian-style barley wine-style ale. Being the ideal celebration beer to release on our 5-year anniversary, Barrel Aged Naked Evil is fermented with both British and Belgian yeasts and aged in whiskey barrels for a lightly spicy twist on this old-world beer style. Sweet malt flavors will become smoother and rich dark fruit characters will build with time to add a wonderful complexity and depth of flavor.

Bottle shared at GTMW line, thanks Matt! Pours a burnt orange almost amber with an off white head and a little bit of lacing, the aroma had a nice sweetness to it but it wasn’t overpoweringly sweet, some caramel mixed in with some vanilla and oak, the flavor has a little bit of dark fruit on the front end with a sweet finish, really nice mouthfeel, really enjoyed this one.

Sampled at DLD 2013. It poured a clear burnt orange color with a thick white head. The aroma was of dates, caramel, burnt sugars, fruity notes and a slight burn of alcohol. The taste was sweet belgian yeastiness, delicious nectar fruitiness, caramel malt with boozy and woody tannins. Very enjoyable.

Pours a ruddy coppy, with no head, only a little effervescence. Aroma is a touch oaky and mostly malty, sugary caramel fruit malts. Flavor starts sweet with a raisiny sweet malt, with a strong oaky middle, finish is sweet with a lingering tannic oakiness, and a long bitterness after. Strangely light in palate for the ABV, apparently very well attenuated and I’m guessing might have used sugar to boost the ABV. Basically comes across as an oaky quad and its fair in that respect. Calling it a barleywine is a bit misleading (except for a relatively high bittering hop). But then again, quads are something like belgian barleywines. OK, so its a highly hopped barrel aged quad.

Found this in the bargain bin at my local supermarket. Murky brown pour with thin fading light tan head. Aroma was faint whisky and sweet fruit. Taste was green apple, light whiskey, sweet, light carbonation. Alcohol hidden in flavor, but felt by the end.

22 oz. bottle, sent from jmikolich (thanks a lot, Jim), pours a cloudy orangey amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of light barrels, green apples, caramel and candied sugar. Flavour brings out a more moderated profile, with the sweetness toned down by the whiskey; the apples are still there, but again are moderated. The sweetness is not as prominent as in Sweet Evil, but still quite present. More complex than the base beer, but still not the most elegant barley wine out there. Decent stuff, but overrated.

This pours a murky, medium brown color with very little head. The scent is sweet with tart fruit. The taste is amazingly rich with sweet malts, sugar, caramel, vanilla, and so much more. It drinks very smooth with not a whole lot of carbonation. You can tell the alcohol is there, but it blends together nicely with the other ingredients. A great find and well worth it at $20/bottle.

Sweet, malty, delicious. Booze soothes my throat without too much bite. Wish this were available on the shelves in NY.

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear copper orange with a small white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is caramel and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel with sweett vanilla and light roasted malt with booze in the finish. Easy to drink a very impressive barley wine from Hoppin Frog.

Bottle shared at the Santa Cruz tasting in January. Forgive my paltry notes but this was the last beer of a long night. Basically this beer exudes banana-caramel sweetness with a rich backbone and plenty of heat. Mouthfeel stands out as very smooth and luxurious.

Awesome sample pour of deep honey/caramel with little to no head. Nose is boozy up front with plenty of caramel and sweet malts. Flavor is super intense!! Boozy and caramel up front with some buttery notes in the back, maybe butterscotch... Really amazing all around.
