COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On a recent trip through Belgium visiting the monastery breweries, we discovered an excellent barrel aged ale that had an incredibly satisfying flavor combination. Aging in oak barrels added a memorable richness, that we seek to achieve with this barrel aged Belgian-style barley wine-style ale. Being the ideal celebration beer to release on our 5-year anniversary, Barrel Aged Naked Evil is fermented with both British and Belgian yeasts and aged in whiskey barrels for a lightly spicy twist on this old-world beer style. Sweet malt flavors will become smoother and rich dark fruit characters will build with time to add a wonderful complexity and depth of flavor.

Bottle, at my 30th Birthday Tasting. Pours clear red-orange, thin off-white head, poor lacing. Nose is red fruit, caramel, biscuit, honey, maple; Flavours of maple, bourbon, smoke. A bit simple in the mouth, and a touch boozy, but overall enjoyable enough.

Bottle @ Mikkellerbar, Viktoriagade. Pours clear dark auburn with a lasting off-white minimal head. Aroma is very malty, candy, alcohol, bread, whisky, malt syrup. Taste heavy sweet, light+ bitter. Body is full, texture is syrupy, carbonation is soft+. Finishes malty, warming and sweet. Whisky and sweetness integrates neatly,

This is an 18 month old bottle. Aroma is honey, pineapple, malt. Appearance is a clear golden amber with a small tan head that dissipates rapidly. Taste is sweet honey caramel pineapple boozy goodness. Palate is slightly viscous with good carbonation. Overall another good Hoppin Frog brew.

Bottle at Mikkeller Bar. Clear red amber with a small off white head. Some small impurities floating around. Candyfloss, marshmallows, caramel, yeasty, sweet berries, honey, warming alcohol. Medium/full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, heavy sweet, no real bitterness but alcohol to challenge it, good balance. I should find this over the top, but I like it. Lots of impressions, challenging, one to remember.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; batch 1, bottled in 8/2011. Pours lightly cloudy ruby red color with a small fairly dense light khaki head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, raisin, prune, pear, apple, molasses, toast, vanilla, toffee, oak, clove, whiskey, herbal, light pepper, light coconut, and oak/yeast earthiness. Incredible aromas with awesome complexity and balance of dark malt, whiskey barrel, and moderate yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, raisin, prune, pear, apple, molasses, toast, toffee, vanilla, oak, clove, whiskey, herbal, light coconut, and oak/yeast earthiness. Zero bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, raisin, prune, pear, apple, toast, brown bread, toffee, vanilla, oak, clove, whiskey, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity of dark malt, yeast ester, and whiskey barrel flavors; with a fantastic malt/yeast/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an insane barrel aged barleywine! All around incredible complexity and balance of dark malt, yeast ester, and whiskey barrel flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on for the big ABV. An extremely amazing offering.

22oz bottle that I’d been saving since the initial release. Clear bright orange color. Minimal white head. Couple loose dots of lace. Not much head initially, but a beautiful color. Very nice whiskey vanilla aroma. Dark fruit, dates, lightly burnt sugar, light candy sugar. Light spice. Very nice complex lightly belgian barley wine aroma, that’s married to the bourbon barrel pretty well. Bigger body, full and on the thicker side. Lighter, smooth carbonation. Lightly slick texture, but not sticky - doesn’t linger unpleasantly. Tasty, complex barley wine. Hides alcohol well - no burn or bite. Moderate sweet taste, but not cloying at all. Light bitterness. Little to no heat. Very enjoyable, tasty stuff. Drank it mostly all to myself on Christmas day without much difficulty (family is not into beer). Last pour has much more haze, completely cloudy with lots of fine particles in the body. Thin off-white head that leaves nice lace.

22 ounce bottle poured an amber color with aromas of toffee, bourbon, caramel, and some light dark fruit. Flavors are the same, dark pitted fruit within some toffee, and caramel added with alight bourbon aftertaste. A solid ba beer, would be interesting if I sat on the bottle.

Location: 22 oz bottle from dbarnold, 10/6/13

Aroma: The nose is sweet and boozy, dark fruit, bourbon, caramel, and a little molasses
Appearance: It pours a clearish orange color with a pretty no head or lace
Flavor: Heavy sweet, with molasses, caramel, and dark fruit, booze is lighter than in the nose
Palate: The body is full, it is quite sticky, with a fairly flat feel, and a lengthy, sweet finish
Overall Impression: So over-the-top sweet and sticky that it is kind of difficult to drink. I wouldn’t want a full bomber of this for sure. As something to split, it is alright, but not an out-and-out winner for me.
