4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 superspak (1469) - Michigan, USA - DEC 4, 2012
22 ounce bottle into snifter; bottled in late Fall 2011, so this is a year old now. Pours pitch black color with a small dark tan head with decent retention that reduces to a thin lace that lingers. Slight spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, coffee, molasses, bread, light char, oatmeal, and light dark fruits. Damn nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity; can definitely see the bready toast character from the English malts. Taste of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, coffee, molasses, light char, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, raisin, oatmeal, and light tobacco. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, toast, molasses, toffee, biscuit, dark fruit, oatmeal, and light tobacco on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance, complexity, and robustness of flavors; with a very pronounced malt backbone and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, thick, and slick mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent Imperial stout! Great balance and complexity of highly robust flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

In bottle, thanks Craig! Pours a very dark brown colour. Aroma of toasted coconut, vanilla, creme brulee, caramel and chocolate. Similar flavours again with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Mildly bitter with lingering alcohol, chocolate and raisins. Lovely.

Bottle thanks to StFun. Dark black pour, very little carbonation and an aroma of sweet vanilla and chocolate. Flavor is very thick and rich malt, creamy dark chocolate, peat, earthy raisins and slightly dry on the aftertaste. Really nice. Hoppin Frog always knocks them out of the park when it comes to Imperial Stouts!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jesperhammer (2203) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 8, 2012
03-MAR-2012, bottle @home, from "Fish & Beer".
Black with low brown head.
Licorice nose with some chocolate.
Taste is even more chocolate, almost licorice root - that woody note is there. A little peaty but not as complex as the ordinary BORIS that I still prefer. Also too expensive.

Sampled @ HaandBryggeriet Beer festival 2012. A black body with a creamy dark brown head that disappears quite fast. Fantastic aroma of dark, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is sweet, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dry fruit, fruity hops and a well balanced bitterness. Full body and a long and smooth aftertaste. Might be the place and the time, but this one really makes me happy.

Bottle shared by Sparky @ Woodshed 1.0! On the edge of ebony with a small chestnut head. Creamy, velvety texture with loads of fudge, chocolate chunk, and Hershey’s syrup. Coffee, vanilla, brown sugar, and molasses are there as well. The sweetness isn’t overly aggressive...just right!
