stobbe74 (655), Denmark Nov 4, 2009 Bottle, 22 fl. oz. Pours a pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is licorice, coffee and chocolate. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is soft and rounded. Overall a really good beer. Shonkers (3), Ohio, USA does not count Nov 3, 2009 "Dark as a pocket" color (shout out to my buddy Bean from whom I got this beer to sample). Pours like a glass of liquid midnight. Happy Halloween. Smells of anise, dark chocolate, java. Tastes like an oatty, nutty, cocoa/coffee explosion...with an alcohol spank to seal the deal. Me likey. A lot. Smooth, oily texture and mouthfeel--that’s a compliment, by the way. This concoction is being placed on my list of favorites. dekeq (35), New Jersey, USA Nov 2, 2009 As I poured it into the glass, I was stunned of what came out. Err...okay, not really. Motor oil came out. It let absolutely no light through, it had no head, and had a nice tan ring around the rim of the glass. Standard issue - let’s move on. I took a nice whiff and got a nose full of coffee or cappuccino. There was also a hint of liquor in there - kind of like Bailey’s. There was also that roasted smell of barley. It reminded me, in taste, a little bit of the World Wide Stout in terms of complexity and what was in it. There was a lot of oatmeal in the flavor with a slight hint of liquorice as well. The texture was very appealing to with a smooth, but thick palate. There was a nice flow of flavors that made the beer extremely filling and pleasant to drink - a rarity for a RIS. gam (1059), brisbane, Australia Nov 1, 2009 Medium tan head very dark stout it,s well carbonated bubbles up the side of the glass, head back to weak cover, aroma vanilla strong oatmeal coffee liccorice and chocolate richness, coffee like mocha aroma, flavour bitter and almost velvet like taste roasted coffee chocolate, dark fruit taste, liccorice, the oatmeal smoothness an alcohol touch like port and brandy mix real bite, good bitter, really well flavoured IMP bitter/sweet to the palate at the finish. Dfonorow (31), New Jersey, USA Oct 31, 2009 This brew pours jet black, like almost all Imperial Stouts do, with absolutely no head. It smells of oatmeal, no surprise if you know what the O stands for in BORIS, heres a hint, its oatmeal. It also has a nice aroma of liqorice, coffee, chocolate, and coffee. The taste is instantly of coffee and alcohol, but fades into a nice bitter sweet aftertaste with a hint of oatmeal. Allen (1282), Switzerland Oct 31, 2009 Bottled 650ml. It pours a pitch black beer with a deep beige head. Comparing this beer with the barrel aged version. Rather dissapointing. I definetely prefer the other Boris the Crusher. All the typical imperial stout characteristics in the aroma plus some reminiscence of cress, caramel, cheese, faint marmelade, acetone an blueberry. Tobacco and marmite showing up in the taste. Sourish. The finish is very weak (comparing with the barrel aged version). Mediocre. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bomber in trade with Bonster many thanks dear friend. Pours a shimnmering silky black with no head....nearly still. Low wafting aroma of thick chocolate malts and rich cocoa. First sip proves this to be a big critter. Body continues to creamy and full for dark malts infused with vanilla and anise. Overall mouthfeel is slick and fast. Finish brings some more of the oatmeal out contrasted with the pleasant bitterness. Some nice alcohol heat during finsh Chapel (327), Levittown, New York, USA Oct 29, 2009 Backlog, bottle, just called "Oatmeal Imperial Stout". Dark brown body with a light tan head. A bit of chocolate flavors on the nose. Think milky consistency with dark chocolate flavors. If you enjoy beers like Young’s Double Chocolate, this is highly recommended.
