UPDATED: AUG 25, 2008 Enjoyed at the csbosox tasting 7/3 courtesy of Gregis and Indra (two bottles of this at a 6 person tasting, nice!). Pour is more or less all black with a rapidly disappearing tan head. Aroma is coffee, roast and a hint of dark fruit sweetness. Taste is deep coffee flavor throughout, beginning, middle and finish are all coffee roast. A whisper of sweetness. Really nice, extremely smooth (velvety) but somehow I can’t help but think this was too much coffee.

OMG!! Saw this on the shelf in a local package store and decided to try it. Opened it with my two sons-in-law and we all were impressed. Black as tar with a rich and creamy brown head, the nose is greeted by coffee, chocolate, licorice, vanilla bean, roasted malt, and a soupcon of smoke. Approaching full body but not quite. Low carbonation. Creamy feel. The chocolate and coffee first greet the taste buds, followed quickly by the vanilla, malt, licorice, and smoke. Perhaps not worthy of a 100%ile rating but still a respectable and remarkable stout that deserve attention.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip. This Imperial stout poured a thick, opaque black color with a one finger thick dark tan head that slowly faded away, leaving behind some excellent lace. The aroma consisted of creamy dark chocolate, vanilla, and some faint molasses notes. A very big, robust aroma. Beautiful!!! The flavor did not disappoint. Very roasty and chocolatey. There are also notes of coffee and spices. The mouthfeel was definately full-bodied and a bit oily. Very minimal carbonation. A very impressive Imperial stout from Hoppin’ Frog. Highly recommended!

RBSG 2007 Grand Tasting - Tar black, thin tan creamy head. Deep intense aromas of espresso, chocolate crčme brűlée, toffee, and vanilla oats. Big chocolate and black coffee flavors are well balanced with vanilla graham cracker undertones. Full bodied and oily, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Any thought of distribution to MD?? Rockin brew from start to finish...

Bottled. Thanks Marsiblursi. Thick black appearance with fast diminishing brown head. Ice-creamy chocolate aroma mostly. Thick, oily, and raw sweet body with burning, fiery backbone, with notes of chocolate. Small hints of almond paste. This needs time to settle I believe.

Dark brown, yellow at the edges. Nice vanilla aroma, a little spice. Good swirl, oily, but it doesn’t appear in the palate in equal degrees, where it is cut by the alcohol. Roasted, smooth, coffee, strong flavors--a bit crass at times. The alcohol comes through fine. Interesting and good on its own terms, but not exceptional within the style.

(Bottle, thanks moejuck) Pours black with a brown head. Heavy chocolate roasted aroma with coffee, light smoke, light caramel and some other sugar sources like molasses and syrup. Some alcohol warmth. Vinous undertones of dark fruits, dark berries and rum raisins. Some roasted nuts. Sweet and roasted flavour with chocolate and some late coffee taste. A bit to raw sweet and sugary. Some roast sourness. Light to medium bitterness. A bit vinous in the flavour as well. Thick, a bit oily and cocoa dry mouthfeel. Full body.

Pours a black and thin color with caramel head. Aroma is of moderate roast. Taste is well balanced with enough hops to counter the heavy roast and malt flavor. Full-bodied but not overbearing. A very nice evenly flavored brew.

My first US beer after returning home. Very black rich tan head. Nose is rich caramel, tar, a good amount of cherry, some hop. Flavor is tar, very drich malt, some dark fruits, tingly hops.
