4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with DeuceDeuceOU. Pours a dense black with a luscious, bubbly chocolate brown head. Gorgeous looking brew. The aroma is outstanding with lots of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and prunes. The flavor is also very good, but not quite as complex as the aroma with plenty of roasted malt, but less coffee and chocolate, and no prune flavor or any other dark fruits. As the beer warms, a light tobacco flavor emerges. Luscious and full-bodied with a silky, creamy mouthfeel. Excellent!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2011 Bottle.
Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is black (opaque, flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, apricot), with notes of vanilla, alcohol, blackberry, light note of smoke.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
A bit boozy and ordinary, but solid and clean overall. Nice aroma and good flavor balance for the style. Not exciting or unique, but you could do a lot worse in this all-too-overrated genre. Wins mainly by playing it safe.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2008 Pours pitch black with a ark chocolate brown head. Beautiful roasty aroma of coffee, toffee, dark chocolate, sugar cane, oatmeal and hazelnut. Flavor has simialr attributes as its aroma. Very malty with lots of oatmeal, chocolate, roasted coffee, toffee, sugar cane, alcohol and caramel. Very smooth with a burnt, bittry dry finish. Amazing!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Solid black, with a roasty brown head, oatmea meets cocoa powder.
Big, fat, wide and out loud aroma. bitter hops, molasses, chocolate, a trickle of anise...rich and decadent, potent and luxurious, edging into whiskey-ish flavors.
Drinkin’ it...there we go, the vastness, the slick, viscous feel, with smooth, roasty oatmeal riding under it...terribly full-flavored, full-bodied, though not as thick as I like an Imperial Stout. Fine as it is, though. Goodness, it’s good.
A well-balanced, multi-layered, drinkable RIS. Tasty. This does a body good on a cold December night. Alcohol doesn’t intrude on the enjoyment.
Gets sharp at times, bright fruit flavor flashes in...but remains a solid Imperial Stout. Delicious stuff.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle - Pours pitch black & viscous with a tight compact head from an aggressive pour. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolates, caramel and a light hint of alcohol. Flavor is similar with dark chocolate covered cherries, roast malt/barley and coffee that yields to bittersweet chocolates/cocoa with a light hop backing. Nice mouthfeel with a medium heavy body that finishes warm and roasty.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours black as night with little to no head. Great aroma of caramel and toasted malts underlined with coffee and chocolate. Flavor is balanced with everything you want from an imperial stout. Creamy chocolate is the boldest but has nice tones of oatmeal, coffee and a slight vanilla rasine and licorice finish. It has a slight bitterness that you would want from this style. This beer is the most pleasing at the back of the palate and better as it warms. I will be picking up more and more of this one.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark, thick black pour with a thin, yet lasting reddish/tan head. Milk chocolate aroma with some sweetness and alcohol. Nice creamy texture. Up front it’s pretty roasty, medium carbonation. Middle reveals more chocolate, cocoa and some light coffee notes. Finish is bitter and there is a lingering alcoholic warmth. This brew just begs to be sipped and enjoyed.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with a moderate tan head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is heavily roasted (and somehow not offensive) with lesser notes like chocolate, caramel, alcohol and moderate hops. Medium to heavy body. Rich roasted aroma carries over somewhat, but not as well. Tasty, enjoyable and well made.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2008 This is one of the best Russian Imperial stouts I have ever tasted. It is very complex tasting, yet It has it all. Super rich chocolatey, smooth flavor with lots of roasted malt flavor with bitter coffe and slight anise hints with a real nice alcohol finish. This is a BIG Beer at almost 10 % ABV, but it hides it nicely. The other IMPS that compare would be Stones Russian Imperail Stout, Left Hand Imperial Stout and Bourbon Barrel Stout, and Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperail Stout. Folks it don’t get any better than this stuff...welll maybe.. :) !!!
