Dark, thick black pour with a thin, yet lasting reddish/tan head. Milk chocolate aroma with some sweetness and alcohol. Nice creamy texture. Up front it’s pretty roasty, medium carbonation. Middle reveals more chocolate, cocoa and some light coffee notes. Finish is bitter and there is a lingering alcoholic warmth. This brew just begs to be sipped and enjoyed.

Black pour with a moderate tan head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is heavily roasted (and somehow not offensive) with lesser notes like chocolate, caramel, alcohol and moderate hops. Medium to heavy body. Rich roasted aroma carries over somewhat, but not as well. Tasty, enjoyable and well made.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2008 This is one of the best Russian Imperial stouts I have ever tasted. It is very complex tasting, yet It has it all. Super rich chocolatey, smooth flavor with lots of roasted malt flavor with bitter coffe and slight anise hints with a real nice alcohol finish. This is a BIG Beer at almost 10 % ABV, but it hides it nicely. The other IMPS that compare would be Stones Russian Imperail Stout, Left Hand Imperial Stout and Bourbon Barrel Stout, and Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperail Stout. Folks it don’t get any better than this stuff...welll maybe.. :) !!!

Ah - B.O.R.I.S. I’ve been saving you....waiting for the perfect time. Pours oily black with thin chocolate brown head that it had to work for. Aroma is coffee, chocolate and lots of malt; pretty light compared to the taste. First thing that pops out in the taste is a reminder of chewing on a chocolate covered espresso bean; yum. You can taste the alcohol, but it is very subdued for a a beer that tastes this big. Easy drinking and just awesome. A little bit of salty licorice in the finish; molasses lingers. Just a slight bitterness comes out. Thanks to someone for sending me this....don’t remember who!

Bottle: Black as night, black coffee on the edges, dark brown head, minor in size and fairly fizzy, sparce lacing.   Huge sweet graham cracker and oatmeal nose.   Moderate roasted malts, slight milk sugar.   Some alcohol is noticeable.   Velvety right off the bat.   Very smooth and silky.   Quite malty, roasty, with a heaping dose of graham cracker.   Has a sort of Smores quality about it too.   Alcohol is noticeable, being somewhat hot.   Moderate hop bitterness, a bit bigger in this than in other examples.   Picking up some vanilla and cocoa as well.   Does appear to be fairly chocolate oriented, on the bitter/darker side.   Smooth... very smooth and easy to put back.   This one lives up to its name.   Finish is warming, lingering cocoa and graham cracker.   Great beer!   Thanks to RagallachMC for sending me several of these!

22oz bomber thanks to franksnbeans. Pours black dark with essentially no head. What there was of a head dissipated into just a line around the rim and light-brown swirls in the top of the drink. I felt the aroma was a mix of concentrated, alcoholic chocolate. My 10year-old son, on the other hand, thought it smelled like soy sauce mixed with wasabi. He likes sushi and chinese food. :-) The flavor was delicious chocolate, rich cocoa at that, with a hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel was medium-to-thick with a dry aftertaste. Really loved this Impy stout.

bottle - Pours thick and black with a thin tan head. Dark roast malt and chocolate comprise the aroma. The big, full mouth feel has flavors of those dark roast malts and chocolate along with some coffee. There’s some mild bitterness in the finish and a hint of the alcohol that’s mostly buried under all that malt. Very nice brew.

Bottle: pours pitch black with a thin dark tan head, aroma of sweet chocolate - some one elses rating mentioning chocolate mousse is pretty damn accurate, taste is chocolate and more chocolate, very sweet with a slight bitter finish and a nice thick mouthfeel. I don’t know if I could drink a ton of these because of the sweetness but on occasion this is a nice treat. A must try for anyone that hasn’t had it yet.
