UPDATED: JAN 17, 2010 Bottle one of two, courtesy crizay and nolankowal. Up against Speedway, DL07, DFHWWS06, and Expedition in a horizontal. Finished #3, nice job! Appearance typical for an Impy Stout. Aroma was milk chocolate more than anything else. Flavor was milk chocolate, light roast, dry coffee beans. Overall, somewhat sweet, little sticky, but enough carbonation to keep from being cloying. A nice brew, enjoyable. HF is a nice brewery. Re-rate, 1/10, came across quite nice, cocoa and chocolate notes very nice, oatmeal dryness still present but not enough, faint coffee in the finish. Numbers staying the same, perhaps they dserve a slight boost upward, but not significantly enough to split hairs.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2009 Freakin BORIS. So delicious. Jet black little head. Aroma powerful of dark raosted malts and espresso and coffee. A little alcohol and hops on aroma as well. Taste amazing. Malts coffee, molasses, burnt caramel and hops. Body rich from oatmeal, very smooth. Savor this one baby.

Black colour with a small light brown head. Light roasted and coffee bitter aroma balanced with a vague fruity note and hints of some chocolate sweetness. Coffee bitter flavor with some roasted malty notes and a vague sweetness. Vague hoppy bitter finish.

Thanks to Santa for this one. Pours out a dark black with a small brownish head. Aroma of roasted malt and slight coffee. Very thick mouthfeel rich and creamy. Roasted malts dominate with slight lingering sweet flavors, molasses, coffee, and some nutty flavors. Very solid beer

22 oz bomber courtesy of Acknud. Pours jet black with small tan head that does not last. No lacing on glass. Aroma is typical Impy Stout, coffee, roasted malts, and molasses. Taste is same as nose only with the addtion of some oatmeal. Drinking this brew is like eating fresh baked oatmeal bread while drinking strong black coffee. Definitely a sipper. Not a brew for lightweights. This is not available to me except in trade, so I’ll be looking to get hooked up again.

Tried on tap. A very bold imperial stout. Very heavy in the roasted malt department. Nice dry roasted finish. A bold example of an imperial stout meant to be enjoyed slowly to both appreciate and not be overwhelmed by its rich character.

Bottle - 22 oz. As the thick blackish liquid slowly fills the glass the anticipation is building. The little bit of a head that is forming is that burnt orange color that I’ve only seen on a couple of other beers and the aromas are wonderful and detectable at a distance. Leaning forward for closer inspection, I pick up dark malt, oatmeal, alcohol, molasses, maybe a little bit of anise and a touch of espresso. First sip is really nice. Silky mouthfeel and burnt malt are the first things that hit, then a bit of an alcoholic warmth accompanies the dark fruit and molasses middle to end development. The best part of all of this is that everything balances really well and transitions are smooth... meaning that, although this is a high ABV imperial stout, and rich in flavors, there are no elements that stick out and distract.

Bottle via trade with MrBendo. Aroma of rich, dark chocolate. Loads and loads of roasted malt, vanilla, wet wood and leather. Pours with motor oil like viscosity. Jet black with a creamy red/brown head. Flavor was roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla extract, molasses. Excellent balance of rich, oily malt and dry hops. Perfect texture. Creamy. Just the right amount of carbonation. Lush and silky. Thanks Todd!

Initial thanks to Walt for sharing. Then Sprinkle sent a couple of nombers my way to spread the dark goodness that this beer is. Mighty and mighty tasty. Deep, dark, delicious, hoppy like a frog, roasty like uh like uh l;ike a toad? Just works well, having the components in harmony like I like it.

22oz. agressive pour gave me a black oil body with tight creamy brown head. Strong nose hops, with chocolate, caramel trace vanilla. Lots of roasted goodness in the full mouth feel. Lots of chocolate and pine finish. Nice here. A very good brew here, would be better on a cold night, but with college footbal in full swing and upset all over, needed to celibrate. Trade, THANKS!
