Sammy (3242), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 1, 2007 Bold roasty flavour, almost wafting several feet. Some material head. Dark black. Very full mouthfeel, breakfast in the glass. A prominent sourness, yet well balanced by caramel maltiness yet not too sweet, cocoa, creamy milk chocolate, nutty and cherry and drinkable.
Outstanding RIS, oatmeal stout, beer thanks to Aofoxxy. I left one glass for 24 hours for my buddy and he thougt it was good even then.
daknole (1131), Plantation, Florida, USA Dec 2, 2008 Well I finally cracked open my bottle. Black pour with some dark red around the edges and a thin brown head around the edge of the glass. Aromas are full chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, and super rich dark pumpernickel bread. Flavor is a smooth rich flavor of oats, chocolate, toasted malt, and some hints of hops on the finish. Glouglouburp (2113), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 27, 2008 In short: A thick straight-forward aggressive Impy Stout saved by intense hopping. Superior for the style.
How: Bottle 22oz, 6 months old
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is slightly roasted and has a strong presence of green fresh grass. Taste is aggressive, rather sweet, molasses and heavy thick caramel, dark chocolate, some tar, the 9.4% is unfortunately very apparent. Overall syrupy and sticky. So far this would be an average Impy Stout at best. What saves it and makes it a superior Impy Stout is its hopping. A whole lot of hops that feel like some of the green nuggets I chewed on just for fun. The sharp biting bitterness really manages to pull its head above this heavy body. I preferred it in tasting sessions, a full bottle was getting a bit too much by the end. Tasty and aggressive, this ain’t Bounce™ the Softener. ketchepillar (312), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Nov 27, 2008 I’m not getting a lot of oatmeal in this one, but I have no problem with that. Lots of chocolate. A bit astrigent. As it warms, dark fruit comes out more-plum. JLAudio (281), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Nov 21, 2008 A very easy, drinkable imperial. Full of great cappucino, cafe au lait, oatmeal, and cedar. It is slightly over carbonated, but acceptable. Also, the ABV is well incorporated, could be higher though. The IBU’s are slightly weak, but lend to the easy drinkability. nbutler11 (305), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours jet black from the bomber with a trim brown head. Bursting with the aroma and flavors of strong coffee, malt, and powdered cocoa. Notes of bitter hops, cherry, and molasses are also apparent, but I barely got any oatmeal from my bottle. Hot with alcohol on the finish and very near a new standard in balance for an Imperial Stout.
