Ungstrup (24030) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 17, 2007
Bottled. A pitch black beer with a fast disappearing brown head. The aroma is very powerful with notes of bitter chocolate, alcohol, and caramel, as well as lighter notes of smoke and wood. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of hard roasted malt that gives the beer both an acidity and a dryness, the hops also leave a slight touch of grapefruit, before a dry and bitter end sets in, the bitterness both coming from the hops and the hard roasted malt.

Papsoe (23023) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 17, 2007
(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of sk8viking. Pours thick and tar-like, black and opaque with a dense, light brown head. Sweetish aroma with some vanilla and a tart edge. Good and solid body with lots of roasted malt, vanilla and coffee notes with a vague, burned edge. The burned notes hold all through the finish where the alcohol shows. Not a bad beer in any way, but there’s just so many better Imperial Stouts out there that for some reason never made the Top 50. 160607

omhper (15966) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUL 16, 2008
Bottled at Petalax Beer Festival. Perfectly black with dark brown head. Oily and tarry from nose to finish. Sweet and thick, but never cloying or inky. Huge, but never assaulting. Soft, but powerful. Whipped cream with chocolate and licorice. No finesse or finer details, but a damn solid, edgeless stout. A gentle giant - like having the biggest guy in highschool as your best friend.

Corked bottle at Plan B, Copenhagen
Black color; the head, brown, disappears quickly. Mixed aroma of caramel, roasted malt, light phenol and paper too. Good body, not too thick, with a strong flavor, in the order, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, liquorice. Correct bitterness. The alcohol can be perceived. Good but nothing surprising.
