tommybuckeye (2), Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, USA does not count Aug 8, 2008 AR: If smelling were enough I would be in heaven. Roasted grain, oatmeal, coffee and chocolate.
APP: Thick tan head with beer being dark brown / black. Full body that pours almost as thick as oil.
FLAV: Nice roasted nutty chocolate with slight coffee. Smooth after burn with little alcohol (compared to content).
PAL: Full body with thick creamy mouthfeel.. Definitely a meal in a bottle
OVRL: As soon as you open the bottle, and until the last drop, this is as good as it gets. I’m very lucky to be from the Akron area to have this excellent beer any time. I’ve had some excellent stouts, but nothing comes close to what this has to offer. DragonsHead (118), Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 28, 2007 This beer gives me something to strive for. The closest thing to perfection I have yet to find from a RIS. Pours a beautiful dark black with a dark tan head. wonderful chocolate and oatmeal aromas. The first taste is an experience all it’s own. Truelly heaven. This is the necter of the gods. So far, my favorite RIS. daftwankie (2), USA does not count Apr 5, 2008 My current favorite. Incredibly dark and chocolatey. From the same brewmaster that created Thirsty Dog’s Leghumper, another great dark beer. QHopjunky (8), , Indiana, USA does not count Jun 12, 2008 Personally, I think this beer is amazing. There are so many good imperial stouts out there, but this one is so well balanced and has the perfect ABV and texture. The flavor is amazing, bitter chocolate, coffee, and an almost biscuit flavor i can’t put my finger on. That is what sets this beer apart from the others, the ability to impart so much flavor while still being easily drinkable. Also, it is cheap...6.99 a bottle is nothing for this beer illidurit (489), Santa Cruz, California, USA Feb 3, 2008 Poured into my trusty snifter. Jet black body with a very dark 1 finger head The suds is composed of relatively large bubbles, which isn’t really conducive to retention or lacing. Not a problem for a stout.
The aroma here is strikingly potent. Rich, sweet chocolate and a soft, fruity alcohol note combine to become extremely appetizing. I may be crazy but the harder I inhale, the more the fruitiness attenuates to a honeydew note.
The flavor is intensely chocolatey, with an impeccable roasty coffee/oat bitterness in the finish. The balance is sublime. The alcohol is almost entirely unapparent but I can detect it’s subtle sharpness under the chocolate.
This beer is incredibly smooth. The body is luxuriously full, with just the right amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is amazingly clean relative to the body, and the bitterness creates a wonderfully dry finish.
Spectacular beer. One of those ones that you would kill to have available locally.
