iride15 (105), Sanford, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2008 Amazingly dark and full of chocolate and roasted malt. Pour nearly black and has a delayed dark brown head. This was a great find for an mixed up order.
Jblauvs (119), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 26, 2008 dark tan head, oily black pour. 0 light penetration. Incredible mellow oatmeal aroma which permeates every inch of my nose. Silky smooth mouth feel starts with some burnt fruits, then continues to some coffee and ends in a roasty oatmeal that last forever. Delightful, the combination of the oatmeal and imp stout syncs well, the smooth body of this brew will leave you breathless. craftycarl21 (126), USA Jul 26, 2008 pours a motor oil black with a small brown head. aroma is silky smooth- coffee, oatmeal, bitter chocolate, roasty malt- really nice.Flavor is impeccable- extremely smooth, but still has a little prickle from the alcohol. extraordinary brew. Narnad (59), Dundee, Illinois, USA Jul 20, 2008 I love oatmeal and imperial stouts and this one did not disappoint. This pours from the bottle very pitch black with a small tan head as a topper. The aroma has a coffee, chocolate and strong roasted aroma. The flavor has a very burnt malt bitterness to it at the beginning and moves into a sweet chocolate flavor and ends with a raisin flavor. This has a very high alcohol content but it hides it very well. Palate is definitely unique. Its very dark and I was expecting a bit more of a thickness to the beer. The bottle I purchased had quite a bit of yeast at the bottom which I love seeing a mass produced beer. derekbang (85), Indiana, USA Jul 19, 2008 Decent IRS but not a favorite. Poured oily-thick with virtually no head. Flavor was strong with licorice and dark fruit - moreso than I prefer. Not as overpowering as the Yeti but still pretty strong. Not overly complex. Aroma was pleasant and very consistent with the flavor. Palate was definitely not on par with the masters in the category but not all bad. BlackDonald (724), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA Jul 16, 2008 Super concentrated aroma, nutty chocolate, graham cracker maltiness but the 60 IBus add balance and bitterness. Deep oily black pour, leaving a thick brown tannic tear lacing. As it warms you get some smoky, tobacco flavors and just a hint of unbalanced vegetal notes, which really puts me off, but also has some cocoa nibs as well. A little too heavy, a little too concentrated on the flavor and never really opens up and is way too heavy on the oatmeal.
