4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 arjoseph (634) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 13, 2009Bomber into shaker; purchased at the Lakeview Binny’s. I love this beer. Like Southern Tier Chocolat this is smooth as silk and sweet for an impy, and fully delicious. Roasty chocolate and carob smell is rich and also very smooth. Low level of carbonation produced a short-lived fizzy head that fully disappears. A carob-heavy, almost fruity chocolate sweetness is full and balanced perfectly by the softness of the oat and roasted malts and a light bitterness of hops that’s the perfect counterpoint in the finish. If a more acclaimed brewer made this I bet it would score higher, but it’s hard to complain about an average above 4.1. Well-deserved.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 swesson (21) - Highlands Ranch, Colorado, USA - JUN 18, 2013
Complex, thick, oatmeal stout. Gives new meaning to the word "stout". Motor oil black color would probably block the sun. Tastes of licorice.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Giak (4) - - JUN 10, 2013 does not count
Textbook super smooth imperial stout (but I’m a sucker for this style) that hides the 9% ABV very well (maybe too well? ;-) ). Dark as the night with a fantastic thick brown head. Chocolate and coffee dominate the aroma followed by raisins and soy? (it vaguely reminded me of dark olive paste). Mouthwatering. The taste does not disappoint. Wonderfully balanced in the mouth. The acrid, roasted flavors from the roasted barley and counterbalanced by a good amount of residual sweetness. That umami/dark olive component that was in the aroma comes also back in the mouth.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Borup (3808) - Albertslund, DENMARK - JUN 8, 2013
Sample at CBC 2013.
Black with a beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel, fruit and spicy notes.

Bottle. Pours thick as can be and deep black. Kicks up a small tan film that dissipates quickly. The aroma is dominated by a ton of roasted malt but there is faint coffee and milk chocolate in there. The taste has a good bit of dark malt.. but there is a really nice milk chocolate that follows and really coats the mouth. There is also a decent bit of alcohol present but the carbonation cuts it well. Excellent.

Share with Bish and AndyMFT, cheers Thomas. Served with a low hanging left arm, a wanton lack of defensive measures and some chips covered in the juice of a questionable meat product. Bloody ace it was.

Tap at Fermentoren, Copenhagen. The aroma is liqourice and alcoholic. The flavour is rich and oily, with lots of roasted malt and alcoholic bitterness. A super rich, full bodied beer and really great to taste. It certainly leaves its mark!
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 conway (606) - - MAY 16, 2013
Bottle. Pours motor oil black with no head whatsoever. Nose is extremely weak. Eventually picked up some dark fruits followed by roasted barley. Taste is similar but roasted malt is up front backed up by the fruit. Light char note evident on the finish. Palate is full with a decent carb. Overall this is a huge disappointment. I was eagerly anticipating this one. I'm not tasting any off flavors but I can't help but wonder if this is off or infected somehow. Will definitely try again at some point just in case.
