COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
BORIS the Crusher made with coffee from the Hippie Coffee Company in Canton, OH. Freshly roasted coffee flavor and aroma add satisfying levels of complexity to this robust stout, perfectly complimenting its intense, rich roasted character. Cold infusion with whole coffee beans keeps the bitterness low and the flavor high!

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Oily black pour, pretty thick looking with some deep tan edges & a small, silky mocha film resting on top. Aroma is full of burnt, oily coffee beans & spent coffee grounds... Intensely heavy coffee aroma with a backing of roasted malts & a little back-end bitter cocoa dust. Taste reminds me of a more tame, non-barrel version of BCS coffee with the big, oily, thick, deep, roasty coffee bean presence, obviously without the bourbon & wood. Roast, burnt brown sugar, mild ash, a touch of astringency, a slight milkiness in the finish that collides with a hint of bitter malt. Medium bodied, not as thick as I’d imagine. Very nice stout from Hoppin’ Frog, another sweet addition to the BORIS series.

(Bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Dec 12 2014) Pours pitch black, tiny dark head with spotty lace. Aroma has lots of freshly roasted coffee beans, "green" sort of bean aroma too, chocolate powder, dried dates?, dark malt sweetness, a little molasses, a rounded sort of nose really. On the palate, coffee beans roasted and soaked in molasses, some dried dark pit fruits, touch of cocoa, velvety, and a creaminess that I attribute to oatmeal. Medium bodied and slightly oily with fairly soft carb. This is as smooth and not aggressively roasted/bitter a coffee stout as you could imagine, while being unabashedly coffee forward. It might not have the depth of the very best in the style but it is delicious and goes down so very smoothly indeed. Yum.

Bomber bought through craftbeer.se. pours oily pitch black with a rather small dark mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and slightly estery with roasted malts, burnt caramel, banana bread, burnt cookies, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, moist soil, roasted bell peppers and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, pumpernickel bread, burnt caramel, burnt cookies, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, moist soil, minerals, soy, salty liquorice candy and alcohol. Mouthfeel is fat, round, velvety, tiny roasted astringent, tiny boozy and full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, burnt caramel, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, moist soil, minerals, liquorice and alcohol. Another excellent BORIS-version.

Bottle... Pours Zhukov-black with a small, creamy, khaki head. The nose is burnt, carbonic and acrid – smells a bit like a cigar shop ashtray. Full-bodied and velvety with gentle carbonation. The acrid, carbonic flavor is a blend of charcoal and lightly sweetened espresso. Boozy-warm finish. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian!

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Heavy malty aroma with coffee notes. Starts heavy malty, a lot of coffee, not too dry. Mild bitter background. Finish well balanced, still intense malty, warming. Good!

Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Dark brown to black pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of heavy coffee with some green jalapeńo notes. The flavor is similar. The coffee and chocolate are accentuated by some peppery character and some heavily roasted malt. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Great beer.
