Pours as dark as night with a half finger mocha colored head that dissipates quickly and leaves a ring of lacing on the glass. Smells of breakfast roast coffee, some roasted malts, maybe a hint of chocolate. Mostly just like a cup of coffee; nothing that stands out. Taste starts with the bold roasted coffee as well as some milk chocolate. Then in the middle, the coffee flavor stays, but is accompanied with some creamy malt (probably oatmeal) that lightens the bold coffee flavor. Then the finish is much of the same, with bold, yet smooth coffee. Also the milk chocolate comes back and is accompanied with some peat flavors on the very back end. Becomes more bitter and a little more complex as it warms. Nothing really stands out with the smell and taste, but the palate is nice. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a light medium body. Nice carbonation presence as well. Hoppin Frog is spot on with the silky mouthfeel. Have had more complex coffee porters. Not bad, but Hoppin Frog has much better offerings.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Dark chocolate and espresso aromas. Soft and dry with dark chocolate and expresso upfront turning to resin in the lasting finish.

Bomber thanks to Jeff. This would be a nice breakfast beer. Pours a pitch black color with a medium, though quickly dissipating brown head. A huge coffee nose. The flavor is rich milky coffee, roast, charred wood, molasses, some dark fruit. Really good. Tastes bigger than 6%. Smooth. A lot of coffee, but it works well. There’s a bit of sour roast in this that’s awesome.

There isn’t a better beer out there. If you like a good porter with a bit of coffee overtone, you’ve found beer nirvana. From the first sniff to the long, smooth aftertaste, it would be hard to criticize this brew. It pairs well with any substantial meat dish and is also good as a base for cooking stews and slow cook beef dishes.

Draft at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014, Session 2. Pours clear brown with a creamy, tan head. Good coffee character in here, some milk chocolate, light earthy, mild bitterness. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Nicely balanced to finish, restrained roasted malts, balanced coffee. Simple porter but very tasty.
