Very nice aroma with hints of coffee. Pours an almost opaque black, with a quickly fading light tan head. The flavor is interesting, with coffee lingering in the back of the mouth with a touch of bittersweet chocolate. The coffee in this is much more subtle then in most other coffee infused beers. It’s light on the palate, with a long lingering coffee finish. This is an outstanding variation on the Silk Porter, and I’ll be picking up some more of this.

Pours pitch black with a large brown head. Smells strongly of coffee and hints of chocolate. Taste is bold coffee and chocolate medley. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Hoppin’ Frog Café Silk Porter finishes with a soft chocolate sweetness coupled with a pinch of bitterness.

655 ml. bottle sampled @ Pure Apricot Tasting. Thanks! Ruby blackish brown with no head,… Smells like a cup of coffee, sweetish, coffee beans and little else. Herbal taste upfront (could be old? Because these coffee beers tend to develop herbal & sometimes chilli notes with age), lots of cold coffee, paprika (same age remark), bitter coffee beans, light cheap chocolate, brown sugar. Low carbonation, light coffee body. Decent & nice but very one-note & touch too much herbal & paprika note + the bottle has no age as usual.

Bottle for my birthday eve 2014 with the inlaws. Pours a deep black with slight caramel head. Aroma is coffee for sure. Taste is more coffee but very thin, slight vanilla, some caramel but mostly just loads of coffee.

Bottle courtesy of a great local swap box from jsquire. Very dark brown, but a little thin, generous tan head. Smells like coffee and chocolate. Nicely balanced flavors, roasty, coffee present but not overwhelming. A little light and fizzy feeling. Solid porter.

Sampled in my hotel room at the Hilton Gardens in Durham with a very special friend :) Very dark near black pour with good creamy head. Big nose of coffee is evident from the moment you crack it open. Flavors of cocoa and roast malts and espresso. Big smooth creamy body is rather silky on the palate. Pretty good.

22FL oz bottle from Beers of Europe shared with Stuu666. Pours opaque dark brown, thin ring of tan head. Big coffee nose, green coffee beans, light chocolate. Taste is much more coffee, dark chocolate, roasted bitterness. Medium body, quite high carbonation. Not as smooth as the original, but still nice.

Bomber from a PUB’R member who visited the brewery. Dark blackish pour with tan head. Nose was fresh coffee, cacao, vanilla. Tastes dark malty, with big coffee, vanilla, and a medium density.
