3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Total wine sterling. Pours black with a thin, rich, creamy brown head. lots of malt on the nose. Very hop forward on the tongue. You definitely get the bitterness right away. And then all that raisiny, molasses malt hits you. I get a bit of booziness on the finish. It’s a big beer which it’s constantly reminding you of as it kicks you in the balls.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
On draft, at The Local Pub in Athens. Pours black as my heart, and thick as treacle. Truly a destroyer - we let Doris sit for half an hour, and resisted the urge to do more than sniff her amazing aroma. Which came storming up our noses with a complex mixture of dark fruits, espresso, chocolate and a little vanilla. Frankly, we got dizzy just on the aroma. And then Doris basically danced all over our taste buds, and all we could manage to say by way of description was "γαμάει - την καριολα". (Too rude to translate, but basically, Doris rocks. Bigtime.) We all fell a little in love with this beer. OK, a LOT in love. Rich, boozy, and creamy and madly complex. I’m a little ashamed to admit we actually timed the duration of the glorious bitter aftertaste. (3,5 minutes, we reckon.) An astonishing beer. Perfect Christmas drinking.

Thanks to Tanger for this as an extra, cheers Jon!
One time brew from around 03/2010 (from my understanding)
A: Pours black and oily. No light penetration. Minimal mocha head formation which disappears and leaves nearly nothing. No lacing. Really viscous hue sticks to the glass then tilted and slowly resolves back to the beer.
S: Dark, black, licorice, figs, lots of hops still even after a year. The beer continues to need maturation to me. Very in your face with the RIS malt profile. Ramped up from BORIS with more licorice, charred oats.
T: Much more evident oatmeal than the BORIS, but still very, very malty. Alcohol is evident here and creates a sweet anise flavor. The beer has charcoal tones to it. Some tobacco flavors, sharp hops and toasted graham. Finish is long and toasty. Would pair with a maduro cigar quite well.
M: Thick, sticky, chewy, full bodied with medium-low carbonation. Resonates in the mouth.
D: Drinkable beer. A very nice beer. Although I think this would have benefitted from BBA (which I don’t always advise) and a good year on the shelves in 12oz bottles. That would have made this beer great.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is very strong, roasted malt, dark chocolate, cognac like notes, alcohol is noticeable, but not unpleasant. Pours jet black with very dark brown head. Taste is very rich, roasty, dark chocolate and dark fruits, raisins, coffee. Alcohol is noticeable, but not distracting. Finish is bitter with some sourness. Overall: just a great beer.
