Hop Dam has been a long time in the works, and its design required us to build a large stainless steel hop dam for our kettle, just for this beer! It was worth all the effort, because this beer is extremely hoppy and very satisfying, using 50% more hops than our Mean Manalishi Double IPA, which was voted Best Double IPA In The World by the US Beer Tasting Championships. Hop Dam is 10% alcohol by volume, and really hoppy, with a bitterness level that is very high but refined and therefore refreshing – its like kissing a hop!! Along with all the standard hop additions, it is also mash-hopped, first-kettle-hopped, and dry-hopped!!! Hop Dam is a 100% American-style IPA, dominated by the top-rated, assertive and refined Amarillo hops, along with lots of aroma and flavor from Columbus, and Cascade, and the wonderful Summit hops – the very special dwarf hop plant picked by hand, and sought-after for its great flavor and aroma. These hops work great together, and make Hop Dam TRIPLE IPA our new standard for hoppy beers!! It will be available for only a few months, so get Hop Dam while it lasts!

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep golden orange color with an off white head. Hops, hops, and more hops! Decent floral and fruity aroma. Flavor is aggressively bitter. Long lingering into the finish. This beer is way too bitter. Loses quite a bit of the aroma and flavor of the hops.

Whew - dry and lip-puckering bitter. Very happy, but I feel like the subtle aromas of hoppy beers are lost on this monster. For me, this one falls somewhere in between their IPA and IIPA in terms strictly of my enjoyment.

Bottle. Hazy darker orange in color with an off-white head. Some citrus, wooden forresty piney notes and sweetish butterscotch in aroma. Feels very fresh and inviting. There’s also some honey kind of sweetness present, but it’s kept in order with that nice, quite aggressive bitter hoppyness. Grassy bitters and oranges mixed with piney notes in taste. Smooth mouthfeel. Later on more tropical fruityness appears together with some nice bitter punch towards the finish. Drinkability is alpha and omega here, good tasting it is.

Bottle from Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London. A hazy orange/amber coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, pine aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, citrus, pine, grapefruit, some tropical fruit, sweet/bitter, rich and bloody gorgeous.

Aroma of caramel malt, pine resin, fruits, hint of liquorice, grapefruit, lots of hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a looooong bitter finish. Just a little boozy. Lots of intensity and complexity to this one. Interesting experience drinking this beer.

Bottle at home. Amber colour, slightly hazy, off-white nicely lacing head. Hop character is big on resinous pine and this beer is quite boozy. Additionally, it has a nicely sweet tropical fruitiness (mango, peach, grapefruit) that matches the creamy malty backbone; it’s a little citrus fruity too. Lingering bitter, resinous, oily finish. Dry too. Oily mouthfeel, big big bodied, medium carbonation. Not your average (imperial) IPA, but too bitter for my taste.

Bottle @ Three Notch’d Tasting. Amber pour with a small head. The nose is actually pretty medicinal. Herbs and loads of white onion. Caramel and bready. Onion, earthy. Strong bitter finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. Meh.
