Hop Dam has been a long time in the works, and its design required us to build a large stainless steel hop dam for our kettle, just for this beer! It was worth all the effort, because this beer is extremely hoppy and very satisfying, using 50% more hops than our Mean Manalishi Double IPA, which was voted Best Double IPA In The World by the US Beer Tasting Championships. Hop Dam is 10% alcohol by volume, and really hoppy, with a bitterness level that is very high but refined and therefore refreshing – its like kissing a hop!! Along with all the standard hop additions, it is also mash-hopped, first-kettle-hopped, and dry-hopped!!! Hop Dam is a 100% American-style IPA, dominated by the top-rated, assertive and refined Amarillo hops, along with lots of aroma and flavor from Columbus, and Cascade, and the wonderful Summit hops – the very special dwarf hop plant picked by hand, and sought-after for its great flavor and aroma. These hops work great together, and make Hop Dam TRIPLE IPA our new standard for hoppy beers!! It will be available for only a few months, so get Hop Dam while it lasts!

Golden dark varnish and hazed with floating...hops? Sediment? Looks fucken wild nonetheless. Neat fluffy ringed head with the thinnest off white film. Nose is like someone has taken what’s going on in the kettle when all the hops are added, scooped it into water balloon and put your nose out now joint with it. It’s jarring, pine stabs to the nostril sweet. Increibly sweet, but too much.
Initial taste is like someone has melted a dozen boxes of sugary cereal bars. Cornmeally rather than malty, Elderflower and oily. There’s a decent shunt of carbonation here, keeps this sweet floral tight knit vibe on top of what is hefty bitterness. That bitterness could be much worse, but there’s a weird grassy and earnest vibe dices this up enough.

There’s real split level in the hop boost here. A wee bit, at least initially, it’s like drinking the syruppy but articulate piney pineapple hop overflow. Then a massive concentrated hop quench, the initial taste a mere sweet heft malt impression.
You can’t really have much hop for the finish here, but it’s not quite the palate whiplash I was expecting. The almost clinical and medicinal hopness wanders off to a jasmine, floral and lightly aluminum tussle. Linger is cooling but a dirty bitterness that doesn’t ruin the next sip... How they’ve managed to keep such damaging edge to the Hop oils and not let it over concentrate the bottle to get to the UK has to be applauded. A different beast from any Triple I’ve had yet.
I was totally dosed by the Hops to the ABV, like drinking a redacted wine, there was very little burn at any stage. My drinking pardner said this was more noteable than Unhuman Cannonball but I forgot I was even drinking beer after this coated my palate.

Draft at the Hoppin Frog tasting room. Tulip. Pours an orange-copper with a mean white head. Head lasted some time and lacing was awesome. The aroma was powerful hops (no kidding) and citrus/pine. The taste was orange, lemon, pine, resin, floral and malty. The balance was well done and the alcohol profile was held in check by the balanced malts/hops. Finish is bold with the hops lingering for quite some time. Not very bitter at all. One of the best Doubles/Triples IPA I’ve ever had.

Nose is malty with some hop fruits like sweet citrus, pineapple and mango. Pour is a dark copper/orange with a thin ivory head that dissipates quickly. Taste is balanced with a good present malt backbone and good hop bitterness. Hop notes are again tropical and fruity. There is certainly bitterness present which is on the tail end and is drying. Mouthfeel is medium. Pretty good IIIpa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber with a large tan crown. Aroma is up front hoppy with grapefruit, citrus, floral notes and a big caramel backer. Flat out aggressively bitter with citrus, mild grapefruit, light pine and caramel and a warm strong bitter ending.

22oz bottle. Pours a golden orange color with a large fluffy white head and good retention. Aroma of strong, bitter hops, citrus, and a light maltiness, very hoppy. Taste of bitter, citrusy, leafy hops, grass, tea and a light malt backbone. Very hop forward with a big hop flavor. Medium heavy bodied with medium carbonation.

Color caramelo con espuma cremosa y marfil. Aromas de miel y fritas tropicales. En boca es melosa de inicio con una carácter de malta y un toque de miel que pasa rápidamente a un amargor afrutado e intenso que es seco en el regusto. Muy buena.
