22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a pocked tan head. Nose is spruce, mint and black coffee; subtle, sweeter chocolate and caramel. Silky medium body with a numbing buzz. Taste is big and bold dark chocolate, pine, grapefruit, coffee and iodine. A bit too much of everything but they do call it an Imperial; new style?

Bottle 65 cl. Pours a cloudy opaque dark brown with a dense and creamy beige head leaving quite some lacework. Sweetish roast with an edge of citrusy hops. Rich body, sweet roast, a little chocolate and a discreetly bitter finish. Delicious - more malty than hoppy I’d say. 130712

Taste is big pine and wet hops, citrus, roasted malt, dark chocolate, herbal notes and hints of chocolate mint. Body is medium-full with a moderate, creamy carbonation and an oily feel. Lingering hop bitterness throughout. Ends with more roasted malt, dark chocolate, mint notes, herbal hops, floral hops, pine and citrus fruit. Damn tasty!

22 oz. bottle shared by Jeremy. Pours a vary dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma has roasted malts, black coffee, a splash of chocolate, but is more about the earthy and resiny hops. The flavor has a nice blend of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee with the earthy, spicy and resiny hops. This definitely fits the definition of a double black ipa. Pretty drinkable, hiding the abv well.

22oz bomber from Herchick poured into a tulip. Thanks Bob! Pours black with a thin ring of dark tan head. Almost looks like a porter. Aroma is malt oriented - Mainly chocolate and coffee but with a good dose of spicy hops. Taste is light bitter. Starts off with citrus and pine hop bitterness but ends with a wallop of dark roasty chocolate. Full bodied with a thick and creamy texture. Soft carbonation and a long finish. Overall, awesome. I think I could drink this everyday!

Black ale little head no oily residue. Bitter and hoppy. Burnt coffee slight chocolate taste. Didn’t like it.

Bottle. Aroma is very chocolatey and pretty damn hoppy. I get some coffee, and some piney / grassy notes. Palate is very smooth, finishing a little dry. Flavor really brings out the chocolate, but it finishes with a hoppy bite.

Poured from a bomber to a pint glass. Appearance is a brown/black that’s fairly translucent with a greyish shear of foam. Nice retention. Aroma is somewhat briny and earthy in its hop profile. Its more piney bitter than any other. Tastes a little roasty on top of that briny piney earthy bitterness. Hefty body. Another good beer from Hoppin Frog.
