Imperial/Double Black IPA
An uncivilized amount of american hop spicyness along with a chocolaty mix of dark roasted flavors.

Bomber, Black as advertised, coffee and leather(?) notes on first sniff, big coffee and chocolate notes on first sip, half finger head with a vigorous pour, pancake appearance from above with some big bubbles, medium body, not much on the finish. 8.8 ABV is well hidden. I would prefer a BIPA to a IBA.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber thanks to Amy. Poured dark black with minimal head. Tastes like a hopped up brown porter. Sweet caramel malts, slight roast, huge American hop profile. A nice BIPA.

22oz bottle 5/20/12 (Binny’s Downer’s Grove)-46° in Shaker-Pours black with a two finger tan head. Aroma of hops, roasted malt, and a little coffee. Taste of the same with more hops and coffee coming through. This medium to full bodied brew is well balanced and quite delicious.

Bomber from Binny’s Arlington Heights. Pours near black with tan heas. Aroma is awesome with fresh hops, citrus pine, chocolate, and roasted malt. Flavors of sweet chocolate. sweet roasted malts, pine. light citrus, and light bitterness. If this beer had more hop bitterness it would be great. For a black IPA this is pretty solid.

Darkover (1512) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 17, 2012
Dark brown color with a tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma of piney hops and roasted malts. Taste is very hoppy with roasted and some chocolate malts. Finishes hoppy and roasty.

pours black with reddish hues when held to light. Creamy dissipating one finger head. Aroma of some earthy hops and dark malts, maybe some faint bitter dark chocolate. Medi bodied. Tons of chocolatey flavor slightly offset by some Hoppiness. This is quite impressive. As you get more into the beer, it becomes a lot like hoppy chocolate milk, which I love.

Bottle shared by Brett, pour is nicely black and nose is huge and hoppy but after the initial hop bite it subdues to a roasty toasty almost burnt finish which really lingers, after 10 to 15 minutes I could still taste the almost burnt flavor.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2012 Shared bomber poured to snifters at Lunar Brewing Co., Thanks, Jack! Displayed a darkest brown color with some ruby highlighting noticeable at the base, a modest layer of tan foam that diminished quickly to a thin ring & film, and left some spotty lacing. The nose was roasty, espresso, cocoa, some citrus & resin, mellow smoke & char, and earthy & herbal notes. The flavor was similar but not as expressive, adding a little tartness, moderate but lingering hop bitterness, soft carbonation, and a medium+ body. Alcohol was present but subdued, and the finale was bitter and dry. Next time, another bomber at Lunar. Thanks Taps! The head was more lasting and laced well, the flavor added a little sweetness & carmelization, and the body seemed fuller. +.2
