COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Extremely rich and malty German-style lager, so intense that it’s named after our founder! Karminator Doppelbock has a traditional double-bock flavor, brewed with an over-abundance of the absolute highest quality imported Munich malt to create an irresistible toasted barley flavor, with hints of caramel & toffee. Alot of care, time, and know-how has gone into creating this complex, memorable, and majestic lager.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2/2013. Pours moderately cloudy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big molasses, caramel, raisin, prune, fig, pear, toast, toffee, brown sugar, biscuit, light chocolate, light pepper, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity of big syrupy-like malt and dark fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of big molasses, caramel, raisin, fig, prune, pear, toast, toffee, brown bread, brown sugar, biscuit, chocolate, light pepper, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of molasses, caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, fig, prune, pear, brown bread, brown sugar, biscuit, chocolate, and light nuttiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and dark fruit flavors; with a nice sweetness/fruitiness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very slick, moderately syrupy, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good doppelbock style. All around good balance and complexity of dark malt and dark fruit flavors; and quite smooth for the ABV, but is still definitely a sipper. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Pinball (10765) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - OCT 25, 2013
bottle from olbutikken. clear dark amber, small bubbly head. bottle foamed over when opened. fruity and caramelly aroma, somewhere between an imperail south european lager, and a quad. pretty weird. Flavor is lots of malts, quite some caramel, faint nuts, good bitterness, faint fruits. However, the experience in total is pretty boring, and sort of a little cloying. Only a little bit better than many mainstream macro lagers available here in europe. Perhaps it\s just not a very good idea to boost a lager to this alc. level.

Draught @ CBC2013. Pours tiny hazy amber with a small frothy off-white head that leaves a sticky trace and some lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, moist wood, dates, prunes, alcohol, sweet dark bread, raisins, hay, biscuits, toffee, butterscotch hard candy and subtle hints of lemon zest. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, very tiny sour and malty with caramel, toffee, sweet dark bread, raisins, dates, prunes, alcohol, hay, lemon zest, toasted cereal, biscuits, butterscotch hard candy and hints of lemon juice. Mouthfeel is soft, round, very tiny tart, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and tiny bitter with caramel, toffee, biscuits, alcohol, hay, lemon zest, dates and prunes. Tasty malty goodness.

At first it a different beer to the ordinary man, exceptional flavor with hints of toffee and caramel. Had it personally at the Tasting Room With and Staff

Not overly impressed. Bad bottle? Caramel aroma, pours dark reddish brown, with a tan head. Very smooth, with an alcohol bite.

22 ounce bottle
Needing a little taste of home I picked this up at Cotteridge Wines in Birmingham. A fine example of a doppelbock held up well despite being shipped several thousand miles across an ocean. I would recommend it to people on either side as a fine example of why Hoppin’ Frog is one of the most widely respected breweries in the business today.

Aroma / Appearance - The ruby red base is deep and oily. A bubbly white head percolates to the top. Caramel, fresh sourdough pretzels, and roasted almonds provide a boozy and nutty profile. This is almost a candy bar in a glass.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel, spruce, and fig are rich and chewy. The mouthfeel is clingy like melted chocolate. The soft bitterness in the finish gives a fine finishing note to a solid beer. This does not seem very imperial but as it warms the palate it also improves. This is not one to be judged by a mere two ounce pour.

Bottle courtesy of GandGKevin. Thanks Kevin! Copper pour with a short tan head. Aroma is rich chewy malt, strong caramel, toasted dark bread and fruit notes. Taste is chewy caramel, sweet malt, dark bread, dark fruits and sugary notes. This reminds me of an amped up Optimator or a caramel infused Eku 28. Those are two of my favorites! Body is medium but rather chewy with a dense, bubbly carbonation and lots of sugary stickiness. Finishes with more rich, chewy caramel, sweet, sticky malt, dark fruit, toasted dark bread and sugary notes. LOVE THIS!

Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Red with a tan head. The aroma is full of toffee and dark fruit. The flavor is more complex. I get some nice dark fruit and cherry notes as well as some chocolate and roasted malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
