COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On a recent trip through Belgium visiting the monastery breweries, we discovered an excellent barrel aged ale that had an incredibly satisfying flavor combination. Aging in oak barrels added a memorable richness, that we seek to achieve with this barrel aged Belgian-style barley wine-style ale. Being the ideal celebration beer to release on our 5-year anniversary, Barrel Aged Naked Evil is fermented with both British and Belgian yeasts and aged in whiskey barrels for a lightly spicy twist on this old-world beer style. Sweet malt flavors will become smoother and rich dark fruit characters will build with time to add a wonderful complexity and depth of flavor.

Bottle, thanks for sharing! Pours a clear reddish amber with a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of sweet grains and barrel with a touch of caramel. Flavor has caramel and toffee notes with sweet grains and a bit of light barrel.

Bottle shared at tasting. Pours brown with minimal head. Typical barleywine aroma...sweet toffee notes. Taste similar with a little wood flavor. Good stuff.

65cl, new exclusive American brew Anno 2011, thx alot to Hans for sharing!, very complex brew, malty/alcoholic/sweet and slightly fruity/spicy/woody, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, nearly no head, very good brew

Bomber from the spiffy hairdo AndyReynolds: nose is wooden. Sweet. Insert adjectives and opinions. Regardless, this is smooth and pleasant despite the harshness one should expect from BA Barleywine. Raisin finish but more of a Scottish ale for me. Oak oak oak oak oak and vanilla with molasses.

Man, there is a lot going on in this beer, I get apples and pears off the bat. Then oak, brown sugar, and caramel. Weird. I thought the barrel aging would be over powering. This is a very different take on an old world ale / barley wine for sure. Complex and hot, but not over powering. Perfect on this cold, rainy, early December night. And now, Superspak says, "22 ounce bottle into snifter; batch 1, bottled in 8/2011. Pours lightly cloudy ruby red color with a small fairly dense light khaki head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, raisin, prune, pear, apple, molasses, toast, vanilla, toffee, oak, clove, whiskey, herbal, light pepper, light coconut, and oak/yeast earthiness. Incredible aromas with awesome complexity and balance of dark malt, whiskey barrel, and moderate yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, raisin, prune, pear, apple, molasses, toast, toffee, vanilla, oak, clove, whiskey, herbal, light coconut, and oak/yeast earthiness. Zero bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, raisin, prune, pear, apple, toast, brown bread, toffee, vanilla, oak, clove, whiskey, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity of dark malt, yeast ester, and whiskey barrel flavors; with a fantastic malt/yeast/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an insane barrel aged barleywine! All around incredible complexity and balance of dark malt, yeast ester, and whiskey barrel flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on for the big ABV. An extremely amazing offering." He give it a "4.5"

Bottle from Joe. Thanks! Pours dark brown color, some ruby on the edges where the light comes through, and a one finger khaki yellowish head. Unique aroma with plenty of whiskey, oak, fig, dark fruits, brown sugar as expected, but with some spice and another note that almost seems quad like. I assume the year is the "Belgian" influence? Flavor is sweet brown candi sugar, dark fruit, leather, caramel, some oak and dryness, coconut and vanilla finish. Thick body with medium low carbonation, coating the tongue. Definitely different from the standard BA Barleywine, but very nice.

Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing a fairly clear, coppery red color, with a presentable layer of off white head foam, and spotty lacing. The nose was berry & dark cherry, with malt sweetness, bourbony alcohol at the ready, and a hint of barrel induced vanilla. The alcohol was expectedly more amped in the flavor, with the dark fruit, substantial malt & sweetness that was a little syrupy, and low carbonation, in a medium+ body. Tasty, and nicely warming.

Burnt gold appearance. totally flat. Smells like mashed rotten bananas and whiskey.Acidic with a ton of sweetness. a lot of banana and fusel intensity. malt balance is nice, mild bitterness. this is not a bad beer the nose is a little weird.
