Smooth, hearty Oktoberfest lager beers have been made for centuries to welcome the harvest season. In Bavaria, brewers would save their best grain & hops to brew their Oktoberfests for celebrating the coming of Fall and the start of the new harvest. This cherished tradition is captured in Hoppin’ Frog’s rich and hearty amber-colored Oktoberfest lager. Taste the tradition!

Bottle thanks to bittermestupid! Clear dark amber pour, very little carbonation and a nice nutty and mild dark fruit aroma. Nice a malty, nutty, decent amount of caramel and a little spice. Slightly stronger than most Oktoberfest beers which seemed to enhance the balance and flavor. Really dig this, will be looking for this the next time I’m in Hudson!

Bomber. Pours a clear, honey amber with a frothy white head, excellent retention and lace. Nose is big caramelly malt, toffee, candy. Mouth is medium-full, pronounced malt sweetness, toffee, dried apricots, dates, warm finish. Very nice Märzen.

Bottle 65cl. Poured into a stem glass. Slightly hazy deep amber, small frothy beige head, mostly diminishing, light lacing; malty aroma, roasty, caramel, honey, candy sugar, bit licorice; taste medium to light heavy sweet and medium bitter, roasted malts, toffee, toasted bread, sugary, light hops set in late, quite alcoholic, with long duration, malty sweetbitter finish, caramel, light coffee notes, some alcohol; medium body, oily texture, average carbonation; strong and sweet but well-balanced, is this a Märzen? More a winterbeer I guess. Anyway I like this kind of beers.

Bottle, 22oz. Almost clear in the glass, amber in color and with a small, off-white head. The aroma is rather sweetish, with syrup from canned peaches and some canned peaches. Piney, grassy hints as well. Rather sweetish flavor, yet dry on the palate. Full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated, with a rather weird bitterness. Peaches, white sugar and fruit syrup as well as a piney touch. Lasting fruity-sweet finish. I don’t mind it not being true to style, but it’s not a beer I could drink anyway. Well, I guess they can’t all be good. 150617

Malty aroma with a touch of marzipan, honey, candy fruit, cautious bitter hoppy overtones. Taste is moderately sweet malty, caramel, a touch of honey, marzipan, some candy fruit, minimally bitter hoppy counterweight. Clean and balanced.

Malty but with alcohol in fragrance. The taste is a bit of a classic Hoppin ’Frog beer but a bit malty flavor and bitterness. Not so good bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth a weak moment. Not impressed at all to be a Oktoberbeer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Bottle aged for one year from Hoppin Frog. Pours a moderate brown-orange with a small head. No lacing. Aroma is caramel, cereal, light spices, brown sugar, and dark fruits. The taste is caramel, toffee, cereal, hay, spices, brown sugar, and candied pecans. The body is medium and the mouth is slightly oily, slick. Finish is doughnut and caramel. Good marzen.
