Rich malty flavors of caramelized and toasted grains dominate this robust Scotch ale. A hint of rye adds a crisp, scotch-like, old-world beer character, reminiscent of a simpler life from centuries ago. It’s a wee-bit heavy.

A little bit strange scotch, with a winey character that overcomes the more usual notes to raisins, biscuit and dark dried fruits. The aspect, reddish, is also clearer than the average scotch. However, it has a pretty nice texture that enhances the overall. Good beer, not extraordinary.

bomber with no visible date on it and purchased at a discount. Kind of wish my wife would stop watching this show about midwives so loudly... Nose is butter and toffee. Boozy. Sip adds a general maltiness and some toast. I’m going to get this way colder before my final rating. A little better, but still super sweet. Glad I didn’t pay full price.

Botella de 65 cl en el lúpulo. septiembre de 2013. Muy especiada y caramelizada con sabores intensos de maltas y cereales. Cuerpo ligero con espuma no muy persistente fácil de beber. Color cobrizo oscuro. Al puro estilo escoces. No muy interesante.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a hazy golden brown with off-white lacing. Smells of toast and malt. Tastes like it smells, only with some sweetness too. Average on the palate. Eh.

10/10/2012. 22 oz. bomber. Reddish brown with a short tan head. Roasted malt and caramel aromas with light fruit. Semi-sweet flavors with fruit, light hops and caramel leading the way. Not my favorite.

Enormously sweet, with additional fruit and raisins and alcohol qualities the warmer the beer gets. A bit of a chore.

Bottle... Poured dark ruby-ish/red with a khaki head. Tasted like a Scotch ale. Malty, sweet, some mild fruit esters. Mild booziness and pretty simple and not overly complex. I enjoyed it.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, cookie, toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (apricot), with a note of alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, fizzy/lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. A very plain beer, all-around...kinda weak aroma and not much aromatic depth, but what’s there is pleasant enough. Syrupy-watery-fizzy in the mouth, and rather sweet too, so not terribly fun to drink. The definition of average.

This is a really solid scotch ale. Smooth on the tongue, malty and sweet, some caramel and bread. Tried at On the Rock’s Hoppin Frog tasting in Nov. 2013.
