COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rich malty flavors of caramelized and toasted grains dominate this robust Scotch ale. A hint of rye adds a crisp, scotch-like, old-world beer character, reminiscent of a simpler life from centuries ago. It’s a wee-bit heavy.

Bottle. Body-looks like still iced tea. Taste-tea, caramel, high CO2 even though there doesn’t appear to be any bubbles, light cigar, some smoke.

Bottle thanks to Paul. Pours a clear orange gold with small off white head. The aroma is strong rye, smoke, wood. Medium mouth with sweet rye, light smoke, sweet finish.

Bomber. Pours a slightly hazy, burnt orange with medium tannish head, okay retention and lacing. Nose is big toffee, dried fruit (figs, dates and raisins), brown sugar, crackery malt. Mouthfeel is oily and chewy, medium sweet, lots of the same characteristics given away by the nose, plus some vanilla and caramel, finishing with subtle bitterness. A very tasty example of the style and a proper warmer for the subzero temperatures that have been frosting my window and leaving my toes numb after walking a couple blocks from where I parked my car. Hoppin Frog once again proves there is definitely more to Akron than tires, the Agora and LeBron. Cheers!

Bottle. Hazy Amber with a very thin beige head. Aroma of dark sugar and fruits. Sweet malty burnt caramel taste with a light bitter touch at the finish very rich. Handles the alcohol well. Medium carbonation. A fine example of the style

Poured from a bomber into a hoppin frog snifter amber with a slight off white head. Aroma reminds me of rye whiskey with bitterness. Flavor is smooth honey. I get apple with this brew but maybe its because it is an older bottle. Nice bitter finish. Overall a better than average wee heavy/red ale. The rye comes out making this a savory treat.

Keg at CBC2012, from some old notes. Dirty deep burnt sienna brown, little head. Dull hop aroma with a burnt sugar edge. Flavour of rich caramel with a biting hop bitterness.
