COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rich malty flavors of caramelized and toasted grains dominate this robust Scotch ale. A hint of rye adds a crisp, scotch-like, old-world beer character, reminiscent of a simpler life from centuries ago. It’s a wee-bit heavy.

Bottle. Clear copper pour with a ring of foam. Aroma is ultra fruity, tons of pear, apple cider, perry and the likes, boozy and fruity. Taste is boozy, some honey notes, fruit, lots of pear again. Body is rich, thick bodied and well carbed. Except for the palate, this one was pretty miserable.

Poured from a bomber into a hoppin frog snifter amber with a slight off white head. Aroma reminds me of rye whiskey with bitterness. Flavor is smooth honey. I get apple with this brew but maybe its because it is an older bottle. Nice bitter finish. Overall a better than average wee heavy/red ale. The rye comes out making this a savory treat.

Keg at CBC2012, from some old notes. Dirty deep burnt sienna brown, little head. Dull hop aroma with a burnt sugar edge. Flavour of rich caramel with a biting hop bitterness.

66 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy amber with a little sediment and a white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are candy sugar, caramel, dried fruit, and rubber - with a sweet finish.

"Nice mix of sweet and peat! Toffee like sweetness, but light, with gentle hopping and a kiss of smoke that goes very well. Very smooth though medium to full bodied on the palate."

Pours murky reddish brown with a tiny ring of beige foam. Smells of caramel, hints of spice, touch of toast. Taste is caramel, very subtle hint of spice. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Hoppin’ Frog Outta Kilter Wee Heavy Scotch Red Ale finishes with a short sweetness.
