And the aroma, a blast of milk chocolate aroma. Flavors of milk chocolate, roasted malt, and some coffee bitterness at the finish that was more pronounced as it warmed. It addition to feeling silky on the mouth, the carbonation was a little tingly. It was an unusual combination, but worked for me. Memorable and excellent porter. travita (1970), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2008 bottle - Pours black with a thin tan head. It smells of coffee and dark roasted malt. The flavor has that malt and coffee with a touch of chocolate too. The medium to full body has smooth on the palate as the name indicates and has some mild hops bitterness. It’s a solid porter, but a pricey one for what it is. Maria (6345), Thisted, Denmark
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Courtesy of Grovlam. It’s black with a red hue and a small, dense head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, light sweetness, preserved figs and chocolate. The flavour has a light sweetness, notes of sweet licorice, coffee, dark fruits, roasted malt, chocolate and it ends slightly dry with a slightly roasted bitterness. It’s smooth, charming and very well balanced and straightforward. A beer that makes you feel at home! Marsiblursi (1659), Göteborg, Sweden
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 16, 2008 Updated: Oct 17, 2008(Bottle) The pour is near black with a light creamy, medium brown head. The aroma is of medium toasted caramel, medium roasted and light-burned malt with tones of burned cookies, nuts, burned hay, creamy dark chocolate, vanilla and cocoa. Clear notes of blue and black berry jam alongside light hints of dark, over ripe cherries and dried fruits. The roastiness also holds coffee and dark bread way in the background. In addition, just a whisper of piney, resiny and herbal hops. The rater solid maltiness scores high in my street credibility book. The flavour has a toasted and caramelly maltiness with a nice roasted finish to back it up. Medium sweet and light grassy bitter. Cookies, nuts, dark chocolate and coffee-like malt is present. Dark berries and dark fruits in the taste as well. A big wet kiss on the cheek to Hoppin´ Frog for the gentle 26 IBU, I like a Porter that is focusing more on the malt profile then the hop force. Bit chewy. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky with soft carbonation. A touch of smoke. Medium bodied. Another solid effort from HF.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Pours a dark brown, with a fairly thick and lasting lace - aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, black cherry, berry-like character, a bit of vanilla and brown sugar - very smooth, creamy mouthfeel, with a medium body - a little abrasive up front, but it smooths out fast - flavors of chocolate, coffee bitterness, dark fruit and blueberry - a little bit of tobacco and leafy character - a little doughy on the back end - it’s a solid porter, but it isn’t one that I am going to drop 9 bucks on a bomber of again any time soon. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 6, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a deep almost blackish brown with these wonderful ruby red hues when held to the light....but the head was dissapointing - small bubbly tan that didn’t leave much lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, some toasted nuts, cherries, touch of vanilla and the slightest hint of coffee. Flavor is actually considerably different. Almost harsh roastiness, light smoke, dark chocolate, burnt coffee, slight nutty/toasted malt thing going on and some moderate hop bitterness. A little thin.
