Commercial Description:
Introducing new Smashing Berry Ale! It's rich and complex, with an assertive, satisfying berry character - more than most fruit beers.

22 oz bottle

I found this at the local store. Figuring that it had to be worth a shot I picked up a bottle for $6.99. In hindsight that might be a little overpriced if supplies weren’t so expensive. Even so I’m not likely to pick this in favor of a few other standbys. It’s not bad but overall leaves just a little bit to be desired. If you are a completionist for Hoppin’ Frog beers give it a try. If not try to split a bottle with friends.

Aroma / Appearance - The peach colored clear body sparkled in the sunlight. A short lived thin head disseminated raspberry vinegerette and Fruit loops into the open air. Not very complex it wasn’t long before things settled into predictability.

Flavor / Palate - The fluid mouthfeel was thicker than I expected it to be without being cloying. The taste of fruit loops is stronger than the vinegerette which is not evident at all. It tastes like a slightly alcoholic version of Vitamin Water or Listerine. I’m not likely to try this again even though it was a nice change of pace.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear reddish amber color with an average fizzy white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Moderate berry tart citrus aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet berry flavor with medium to heavy sweet finish of short duration. This beer did not meet my expectations.

Pours a clear, yellowish-straw color. A small, foamy, off-white head fades quickly to a wispy film. Wet lacing leaves little to nothing behind. Aromas include pale, sweet malts, light corn syrup, and artificial blueberry and raspberry scents. Flavors basically continue this disappointing trend, tasting more like a berry Gatorade than a beer. The medium-light body is sugary and too sweet. It almost feels like a flat soda in the mouth. Bleh.....this is not my cup of tea by any means.

5-30-08 bottle thanks to Miketd
Clear pale yellow water with no lasing head. Smell is insanely sweet and dense berries and candy. Weak and awful palate. Flavor is exactly like a crappy vitamin flavored berry water - not enjoyable for me at all. I prefer Lone Star to this.

Bottle from miketd in trade. Thanks!
Pours a very light yellowish, orange, clear color. Smell is light and berry candy like. Taste is mild, thin and moderately sweet and with artificial candy-like berry flavor. Thin fruit-wheat beer like character, but not sure there is any wheat in it. Very easy to drink and not offensive, but somewhat artificial and thin.

22 oz. bottle via trade with Brigadier - Pours a golden color with a very slight haze and a one finger thick white head. The head fades pretty quick and leaves some light spotty lacing. Aroma is basicly berry. Flavor is also berry. Medium body. Very smooth palate. This beer is one dimensional, but is pretty good as fruit beers go. Thanks Nathan.
