Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 05/11/12. Slightly obscured amber/seville orange with a decent off white head that soon thins. Nose comprises yeast, toffee, dates, prunes, orchard fruits. Tastes of dark toffee, caramalised sugars, apple tones, raisens, prunes, toffee apple, touch of spice. The alcohol is well disguised. Fuller end of medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a sweet fruity finish.

22fl oz bottle from El Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo.@home 10-04-2014.
In short: a "light" barley wine.
Pours deep golden with nice creamy off white head. Short head retention, poor lacing. Medium body, flat carbonation, silky texture. Malty, honey, liquorice, fruity and subtle tart aromas. Taste is fruity, sweet, honey, some liquor notes and again subtle tart flavours. Not too rich flavoured, watery compared with thicker barley wines. Enjoyable anyway.

Aroma is very sweet, malty, a tiny bit dark fruity, some hops. Taste is interesting. Fairly sweet, fruity, some sugary malts and hops added in. Lighter than expected, but still a slight, slight syrupy taste.

Pours a clear, radiant light orange amber. Very small white head. Aroma is malty, sweet, overripe fruity, citrus, yeast, light hoppy, a little dry, candi sugar. Medium to full body. Juicy, fruity, sweet. Some alcohol. Tasty and surprisingly drinkable and approachable for the style but seems to be missing the complexity, balance, and nuance of others in the style. On the other hand, I like that it goes in a different direction than many other American barley wines.
