3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle@Home. Very nice shandy. But I don’t like shandy so it will not score high I’m afraid. Very sweet but not sugary or artificial. Ditto for the citrus.

more than anything this reminds me of a citrus soda. However, this is not a downside on the beer itself, while it doesnt have much carbonation and very little head, it brings a nice crisp sweet flavor with a citrus bang to it. very refreshing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The aroma is lemony/citrusy with malt and candy. The appearance is yellow with no head. The taste is like the aroma and tastes like malt with lemon drops. The palate is smooth despite low carbonation. Overall a nice beer. I like it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Murky gold color with a thin whisp of a white head that disappeared entirely. This smells like Squirt and lemonade. This tastes nothing like a beer. It reminded me more of a gin and Squirt cocktail than a fruit beer. Light and refreshing with a nice grapefruit juice finish. Very nice summer beer.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: APR 23, 2011 Lemon coloured body, no head, active carbonation. Middling or less mouthfeel. Its a decent lemonade, the taste has some dish soapyness to it. Not too sweet, but some residual malts. Nothing special, but worth a glass for drinkability.Neutral aroma..

1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bomber. Pouring lightly hazy, with a medium golden amber hue, the body shows absolutely no head or lacing. Even a vigorous second pour can’t conjure up anything more than a few clear bubbles. The nose is off-putting, bordering on disgusting, coming across as a fake, syrupy, sugar laden orange-aide more so than a beer. Lemon dish soap comes to mind. Flavors resemble those of Tang, or some other artificial, sugary citrus drink. A sugary, syrupy palate is made worse by the lacking carbonation. There are just no redeeming qualities here. It’s an awful idea, compounded by awful execution. Just a horrible beer.....one of the worst I’ve ever had.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Reviewed from notes. Tasted from bottle. Pours light golden with no head. The nose is sprite "lemon and lime" with a hint of bread malt. The taste is not as sweet as sprite, but along the same lines. The lemon acidity is nice and refreshing. The body is light with very heavy carbonation and a long lemon finish.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber pours clear gold with really no head at all. It smells like various citrusy orange like notes from sharp to sugary sweet. Interesting, it tastes like sweet orange grapefruit soda and essentially looks like it too. After it warms a tad faint notes of floral and spicy hops are noticed helping to delineate it from a sea of orange soda. This doesn’t really seem like beer and is extremely, dangerously so, drinkable for the ABV.

I understand why someone like, say, Leinenkugel’s makes a bottled shandy, something quick for young men to buy their girlfriends who "don’t really like beer" but why on earth would Hoppin’ Frog? "Hey, let’s make an expensive beer of the type that people who buy expensive beer won’t like!" It just doesn’t make sense but, then again, I got curious and bought it so who knows. I will say this is somewhat better than the typical bottled shandy, which is a whole different thing than saying it’s good. It’s drinkable. It tastes pretty much like Country Time lemonade but is neither too sweet nor too sour to prevent rapid imbibing if that’s what you’re into. The carbonation is really nice for what this is, gentle but brisk, too. I doubt I will drink this again but I’m glad my curiosity has been satisfied.
