The release of our Turbo Shandy Citrus Ale is around mid June. Born from European tradition, our Shandy is a refreshing combination of lemon and light malt flavors. Unlike traditional shandys, Turbo Shandy, revs it up a couple of notches with a high test, full flavored approach as only Hoppin’ Frog can do.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a medium white head. Aroma has lemon candy...like a jolly rancher...and some wheaty notes. Tastes like lemon hard candy too...not acidic or tart...more sweet. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish has refreshing lemony citrus.

Bottle to pint. Looks good; light and inviting. Smells moot. Tastes good; definitely the best shandy I’ve ever had. Mouthfeel is good. too. Overall, a great shandy.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is lemon, lime, and not much else. Similar to a sprite. Taste is much the same. I love Hoppin Frog but not this brew.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a weizen glass. Appearance is bright, almost neon yellow with a large white head of foam that dissipates almost immediately. Aroma is a nearly offputting citrus yeast blend that should have given me a heads up to go ahead and pour this down the drain. Taste is like a minute maid lemonade that got dumped into a bag of sugar and then into some hefeweizen. I did end up dumping about half the glass in the yard. It’s just too sweet. Almost sickly sweet.

22oz bottle from a generous trader. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is big lemon, lime, and citrus, along with mild bready wheat. Flavor is like a lemon-infused Sprite without all of the sugar. Lemony and citrusy with alcohol instead of sugar. Finish is sweet citrus. Interesting take on a shandy.

This brew pours a cloudy yellow-orange color with a minimal white head that evaporates quickly. Sparse spots of lacing on the glass. Citrusy aroma with some malt behind it. Medium body with a zesty orange and lemon character with some sweet malt and yeast in the background. The finish is fruity with a lingering citrus aftertaste. Maybe not the right time of year for a beverage like this, but pretty average overall.

Bomber. Poured cloudy pale golden with nothing going for head.. did not look good. The aroma picked up freshly-squeezed and sweetened lemons over a bready base.. touch of honey too.. warm, sour undertones.. no surprises here. The flavor found more tart lemon zest throughout, with a pale and bready base.. some lemon meat down there too.. sweet-tart feel on the finish.. too many sugars to be really refreshing. Light-medium bodied, tart, and grainy on the palate.. very little carbonation.. OK feel and flow.

11/24/11. Happy Thanksgiving! 22oz bottle courtesy Tim! Hazy yellow pour, reminds of a pale witbier, with a small white head that fades. Light, sweet aroma of lemon peel, a bit of window cleaner, and pale malts. Sweet flavor of lemonade, a bit of cleaner again, something that reminds me of mint, and a touch of sweet maltiness. Can’t say I love it.

Bottle. Light vibrant clear yellow pour, little carbonation and a lemony aroma. Flavor was mostly lemon, malt and that was about it. Decent beer and not overpowering on the lemon, but more of an alcopop in taste.

Bottle. Light hay for the malt, moderate perfume for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with notes of tangerine, lemon and fruit wine. Head is none existant and color is hazy amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately acidic and faintly bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation, Too fruity and too citrusy for me to like this beyond a refreshing boat drink. Pass.
